Headed back down next week for a few days. So far have reservations at R Kitchen and Halls, considering heading down to Bowen’s one night but not sure if I’ll want to deal with Uber or driving. Other options I’ve been kicking around are Rutledge cab, chez nous, Mesu, Leon’s, and hannibals kitchen. Any opinions?
Hit up Mesu last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m no food critic but the tacos were really good, the marg was too, and the service was fast and personable.
Rutledge Cab was nothing special. Went there last summer. Went to Halls last week. Just the best. I would go to Leon's or Mesu. Also consider Chubby Fish and I liked a place named Laurel with small plates/Tapas. Pretty new.
I meant to have Chubby Fish on that list, friend of mine was saying its a cool spot. Did Leons last time I was in town but it was damn good and wouldn't mind going back.
Always going to plug my buddy's restaurant, Daps for breakfast/brunch and mimosas on draft or in the can. They also do a sandwich shop out of Daps called Mama's Boys and the Italian sandwich was amazing.
Daps is awesome also, Zero George is elite for dinner. Maison, Bistronomony, Melfi’s id all recommend
I like the rooftop brewery called Revelry. One of my favorite local breweries. The Vendue hotel has a rooftop bar. Awesome hotel that we stayed one night at for our honeymoon, but we never checked out the bar. I’m sure there are a few other options but those are two I know about.
Top of the Grand Bohemian Hotel. Not a rooftop per se, but the bar by the pool at the Ryder Hotel is cool
Posted by a white girl from my hometown on FB. I just knew the big revelation she was alluding to upon visiting Charleston was the market and the legacy of slavery. Nope, parking lots
Ya…I got through a few lines of that and gave up. Breaking News: Cities where space is at a premium charge for parking. More at 11.
With or without kids? Places I often take my family, or just myself, are Lewis bbq (the Sunday chicken fried steak is ridiculous), edmunds oast, edmunds oast brewing company, baker and brewer, EVO, and a Georgia boy always needs some home team bbq.
visiting in May- very excited. Anyone know anything about the Elliot house? Recommended by a friend but thinking of switching to the Vendue. Is one clearly better?
Also- need one last restaurant suggestion and need y'all to break the tie. All look good, and the vibe is probably very different between these, but: Leon's FIG Amen Hank's Thoughts appreciated, gentlemen
probably something more energetic. I like pretty much all kinds of food. Leon's looks great but how long would the wait be on a Saturday night?
scrap them all and go to Chubby Fish, Maison, Malagon, Chez Nous, Melfi's, Tempest, or church & Union they all take reservation except chubby fish iirc
i like leon's for the atmosphere and cocktail lounging. that's about it little jack's nextdoor has the best burger in charleston, though
My sister lives basically around the corner from Dashi. When you get there and see it youll probably debate about turning around but its definitely solid. Ill throw in Jackrabbit Filly too. Pretty good place.
I would expect a big wait anywhere during prime hours. I am a big fan of Leon’s, always get the clam wrap, iceberg stack, chargrilled oyesters, Brussels, and all the fried chicken.
The Ocean Room on Kiawah needs more love in this thread. Probably our favorite restaurant, try to get there 4-5 times a year.
We ate at Church & Union one night on our last visit a few months ago. The fried chicken dish was the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.
FIG is my favorite restaurant in town so down for one. Bet they've got the tomato tarte tatin back on the menu now too.
So jealous. Have you been before? If not I’ll give you some recs. They make the best Old Fashioned in the Lowcountry.
Indeed, even with kids we were regular Golf & Gourmet participants (basically pay for a room and we'll give you a free round and dinner) before they stopped due to what I assume was COVID. With that said, I'll take all the recs.
Idk if anyone has had The Pass before but god damn I had an amazing Italian from there earlier this week.
Brethren, I am having my bach party in Chucktown on july 27-31 (yes I am aware of how hot it will be) and am looking for some recommendations on golf and maybe just generally. Right now, the plan is to basically eat, play golf, and maybe do some deep sea fishing. We are staying in Folly but will be coming into town quite a bit. Any advice would be super tight.
