get the pork belly appetizer. non negotiable. I got the alligator rib carolina gold porridge with brussels and shishito peppers for my entree and it was great. it's beer and wine only though, just a heads up.
Underground Kitchen was rented out for a private event. I may fly solo there tonight. What's the TV situation? Any chance I could post up at the bar and watch football while eating?
Have you been to his new restaurant off Southside? Brought the wife Saturday & my mind was blown by the Southern "ramen"... so much depth of flavor with his broth. Goat curry soup was off the chains as well. Haven't tried his Q yet, but plan to swing by for lunch one day this week.
Nah. I want to but we hardly ever cross the river. You know how it goes. I went to a party where he and Scotty Schwartz prepared a "crucified goat" and homemade blood sausage. It was crazy amazing. Those two are super talented. If you haven't tried Black Sheep's Intuition menu, you are missing out. The guys worked out a great menu.
I hear you. But for dining & my job, I'd never cross the ditch. I've only been to Black Sheep twice... always just prefer to drive a little farther & visit Orsay. Gilbert's Social is on par with the best restaurants in town, but in a casual, soul-food / BBQ atmosphere.
Strong disagree here. Their sides are all pretty bland and the portions on the burnt ends was pretty lame/fatty. The atmosphere is pretty cool, so I really wanted the food to be better. I like Mojo's and 4Rivers more.
All I got was pulled pork sandwich and fries. It was delicious. The sauces were good too. Again, never been to Mojo's. I've heard 4Rivers is good too.
1.Gilbert's Social for elevated BBQ & Soul Food... sides blow away everything else in town. 2.Woodpecker's is worth the drive. Mojo's used to be tops, but has been passed. It's pretty meh these days, but for their smoked wings & burnt ends 4 Rivers is a step above Bono's. They serve a bastardized mix of pulled brisket & pulled pork, labeled "burnt ends". They cant be considered best of anything with that bullshit. They do have great beans & smoked corn
Mojo's burnt ends are best BBQ in town. 4Rivers started out strong but has regressed. I like Beadred Pig.. It's not great but its near the office. Both Gilbert's location are badass.
My biggest issue with 4Rivers is the seating at dinner time(I'm basing this on the baymeadows location.)
You all need to get to Rue Saint Marc, in San Marco, if you haven't been. Medure Bros. knocked it out of the park. Porchetta sandwich is off the chains
Agree on both of these. Wife and I have gone to Woodpeckers 2 of the last 3 weekends. Their datil pepper corn is one of the best sides I've ever had. I could drink that juice daily. Pork, brisket, turkey, and ribs are all on point. They have a sampler platter that's not on the menu where you get a little of each meat and it comes with 4 sides. I think it's $30 and after splitting it we took enough home to each have another meal the next day. FYI I think they are closed this weekend. I remember something about that last weekend.
Gilbert's > rest, being less than 3 miles from me is an extraordinary plus. have reservations for tomorrow evening

If any of you cucks are looking for something to do on Saturday: I think most of you know who I am so please say hello if you make it. I'll be running in late but will be around doing my social butterfly thing.
Just one of the three founders. Appreciate it. The citrus vodka is getting really high marks so we will likely make that an evergreen product provided we find suitable citrus. Pretty proud of our gin. If you like it, you will definitely like the barreled gin. The rye is really damn good.
That's awesome. I'll try and see if I can make it. Went to one or two other parties there and had a good time.
Visiting the parents. They had a group of friends over earlier and we walked down to Petes. Obviously not as great when the weather is perfect, but still had a good time. In fact, I'm drunk while I type this.
Anyone been to Wicked Barley in mandarin? Tried it for the first time tonight. Wife got brisket, which was thinly sliced, but still really good. I had a burger that was pretty great. Decent beers.
Only been once but didn't even look at the menu. They didn't have their own beers but their draft menu was solid. I think we're going with a group next weekend though so looking forward to it.
I gather that St Patty’s is gonna be a big deal there. We’re just around the corner, so we talked about going too.
