I thought he showed good command of the offense. They are asking him to do a lot because he can handle it. He was making tough throws. He was off on a few throws but not bad overall. For a rookie behind that online I would say B-.
Kinda hard to criticize some rookies but give Winston a free pass, imo. None of them played well, but again, they're rookies.
Wasn't saying you specifically, just a trend I've noticed in this thread. Only guy that looked good was Kwon Alexander
Jameis needs to have the game slow down for him. No matter how good you are, this is a different level. But it also doesn't help with the OL He made some bad throws but also some good ones the WRs should have fought for. I think by regular season we get an improvement but it doesn't fucking matter unless the OL has a miraculous turnaround..
His FA signings and even oc choice were shit last year, obviously the pressure is on. Another rough season and there's really no point in keeping him, may as well look for an up and comer as opposed to some retread.
We have a starting guard we'd probably be willing to trade that's pretty decent. Do you guys have any assets you think leadership would trade for a starting guard?
Yup, they're saying Bruce Carter's job but I'd rather see Lanannah get pushed to backup. Need a versatile guy who can play all 3 LB spots off the bench anyway
Well losing Tedford due to health reasons was a rough going that you really can't blame Lovie for. I was a fan of the Michael Johnson signing. Yeah the contract was steep, but I think giving up on him after one year where he was playing injured was a bit premature. The Alterrain Verner signing was a phenomenal deal. Great player on an even better deal. The problem was that they did nothing last year, outside of the Mankins deal, which I thought was a great trade, to help the OL. I'm pretty sure everyone going into last season knew how bad the OL was going to be, too.
Rick Stroud @NFLSTROUD 44s45 seconds ago Bucs have agreed to terms on a two year deal with former Colts and Lions RT Gosder Cherilus
Watched again, he was pretty atrocious his first 2 or 3 series, but he looked a lot better after that, given the shitty OL play. He got knocked around a bit but some of his worst throws were not pressured. A lot to improve on, but not a god awful showing.
I liked how in control of the offense he was though. He was in command, directing everyone where to go, making checks and changing protections. I liked how he didnt get rattled when things didnt start right.
He needs work but looked like he knew what he was doing out there. He'll figure it out. His aggressiveness will be to his detriment early this season but once he adjusts to the speed of the game he'll be fine.
Sums up my thoughts. Let the game slow down for him and he will be fine...he is going to try and get away with those aggressive throws he got away with in college and he will learn it doesn't work so well
Lol and I catch shit for being a Tebow homer. Winston looked like shit and you guys know it. He made 2 or 3 good throws and almost tripped over his own feet on one of them.
You're an idiot Tebow looks like shit behind a decent OL and has horrible mechanics. Winston, with fans realizing he has a lot to work on, is behind a shit OL and has better mechanics and ability to command a NFL offense. You're literally the dbl to Winston in the NFL that he is to FSU in college. Just stop
I dont think he looked like shit at all. He wasnt great but it was his first game. He was off on a few throws but some other incompletions the defenders also made a good play(Jenkins and Jackson near the goalline). He didnt look lost out there and the Bucs are asking him to do a lot because they know he can retain it.
For the record, I never said Tebow was better than Winston. Not even close. Find me a reputable analyst who thought Winston looked good this weekend. "Overwhelmed," "struggled," "uneven," "mediocre, yes.
His decision making was probably the worst aspect of that game. On his first pass, he locked onto the receiver and completely ignored his check down at RB, would've been a first. He's a rookie, so long as he consistently improves, he'll be fine. As previously mentioned, he'll adjust to the speed of the game.
Accuracy seemed to be more of an issue. His first pass was a bad decision, but the rest seem to be there if he puts the ball where it needed to be.
Little bit of both, imo. I also believe he had more than 1 throw that he forced, but the accuracy improved as the game went on. However, it's honestly not even worth debating. Even his biggest gainer was a bit off target, though. Good throw and VJax is still running
I think we can judge his play, but I'll agree that going ahead and assuming he's going to be a phenom or a bust is pretty stupid. I don't think anyone can be rationally upset with how he played. Plenty to improve on, but saw a few good things as well. The key is going to be a run game that can take some pressure off and an OL that prevents him from getting hit every play. As bad as the OL currently is, teams are going to rush 4 or 5 and still get in his face as he throws. Valid point.
