Thanks for the thoughts. Sorry about that, I should have been more descriptive in what we are looking for. I would say "nice, but affordable" would be what we want.
I'm staying in the Flamingo b/c of location, it is nice, decent pool & it is affordable. I think I'm getting 3 of their "Go" rooms for 3 nights for 1100 total, tax included. No resort fees. No extra bullshit charge at check in. Was looking at other places around and it is drastically cheaper. Was looking at a suite, but the room is really only going to be home base and fuck paying double for a kitchen & dinning room table I'll never use. Rather spend my money on strippers and booze and the tables.
I'd check out places like Flamingo (GO room), Monte Carlo, Harrahs, Tropciana, or Mirage. TI is ok, but I never really liked the feel of the place. Planet Hollywood will run a little higher most nights, but it's a nice property. Those places are pretty nice without dropping a lot for luxury. Most of those give you really easy access to the entire strip if you like to move around. If you take cabs everywhere anyway, then it's not a big deal. Everyone's different, but I wouldn't have a good time stuck in a shitty hotel/casino. Plus chicks (if you're going for that) are more likely to hang around and go back to nicer hotels. As far as clubs and pools, it won't matter much where you stay. Flamingo is pretty good, I've heard. Stayed there the week before it opened for the season. Trop's looks nice, Harrahs was plain. There are a lot of adult/club pools to go to during the day if you want that, but if you just want to chill and actually swim around for a while your hotel pool will do ok. Cabanas are pretty reasonable if you have a group. If you want to hit some clubs check out Vegas.com deals. They usually have a great deal on a package that includes TAO Beach and TAO/Lavo for 2 days. Most of the clubs are going to be the same once you're inside to be totally honest. If you want to get a table at any of the big clubs it will cost you $600-$1k. Other people can speak to strip clubs, but every impression that I get is that they are money pits and you might be better served to just save those for home. If you put in a little legwork beforehand you can do Vegas pretty well for cheap. Hell, once you're there nobody's going to know that you used deals or coupons to get a room or into somewhere. How about food? Do you plan on eating cheap or hitting some good places each night? TravelZoo has some good dining deals, so check that out. There is a lot of food at any price level, so if you have an idea what you want or are willing to spend total or per day then I can make some recommendations there. But I can't stress enough, don't feel like a tool for using coupons, freeplay, internet deals, etc. All people are going to remember is that they had a kickass time, and chicks will see what you've got, not what you actually paid to get it.
is it impossible to get in for a group of guys if we try to buy that same day, what do most people do? I see the pre order ticket price(for guys) went up more recently
yeah I'd rather just decide and buy now but it's hard to get a group of 10 on the same page. figured they would learn by now that waiting till we get there when a big name DJ is hosting will most likely result in waiting in a line and never getting in when the whole group is guys
stayed up reading the whole thread. am going memorial day weekend may 25-28. will be getting there on friday at around 11, and leaving on monday probably around the same time...my buddy had some family member or something that has a time share. pretty meh about that, but i guess thats money i'll be saving on hotels even tho probably half of that will go to cabs? i only know a few games, and am not really into slots. i thought i heard from somewhere that during the day the big casinos wont be as busy and you can sit down and the dealer will actually teach you how to play, is this true? i definitely want to learn craps, and i've heard texas holdem bonus was pretty good. for a first trip, what do ya'll suggest in terms of an itinerary for the 3 nights 4 days i'll be there. i like to gamble but i don't want to blow all my money the first night and then be miserable. also want to see one show (i think), eat at one nice restaurant, definitely hit up clubs/bars that hot chicks frequent haha. after that i'm pretty open, and would like as many suggestions as possible. TIA
Have everything booked and paid for for my trip in July. just now have to start saving my gambling money. which shouldnt be toobad cause my car will be paid off next month. only thing the gf wants to do is visit the hoover dam which is gonna blow cause im renting a car cause she just wants to take pictures and leave which is better then spending 2 hours doing the tour. she also has this idea that she's gonna go out for her 21st with her friends and leave for the Jacksonville airport after we leave the bar
i just stayed at the trop, it was pretty nice for what we paid. sportsbook is smoke free and the pool wasnt open but it looked decent. only downside is you're fairly south of the strip, so when we went out (pure, marquee, and gallery) we had to cab it. i stayed at the mc last march, it was nice and i think its more expensive than the trop. if you're willing to spend the extra $$$ (and i dont think it would be much more) then id go MC.
Been to Hard Rock twice in the last month. Hate that it is off the strip, but I love that hotel. Had the blue & white suite that opens up to Rehab. Well worth it. Plus you can tell girls that you have an elevator in your room; don't know why, but it works ! Vanity is a good time as well.
About to book my bachelor party trip. Got a suite at Ceasar's. 1300sq foot room. Two bedroosm (1 king/2 dbl beds) & they said they'll roll in two beds for us. $1600 for 3 nights. Seems like a damn solid deal split 7 ways.
I'm always told the rule of thumb is to gamble in downtown and party on the strip, but there are good places on the strip to gamble if you want low limits. O'sheas and Casino Royale are the lowest limit casinos on the strip I'm pretty sure. To learn craps, just find a tutorial practice game online. www.freecraps.org/free/craps/ vegasclick.com/games/craps.html
Watching 'Diamonds are Forever", love the Vegas scenes. "Hi, I'm Plenty O'Toole." "Named after your father perhaps?" NSFW Spoiler
81 days til my excursion with my gf. Everything is paid for, just dont think I will have as much gambling money as I want to have. Wish I had an extra month to save up.
was there this past weekend for a Bachelor Party(2nd time there). just a crazy weekend and it went so fast being there 2 nights. PH-Cosmo have the perfect center strip location, great weather so the Strip, Pools, everything was packed all day & night long. I went to XS Saturday night, the talent was amazing..the main club area opens up to the pool area. Just about everyone I met was either from SoCal or Europe, all surprisingly down to earth and in that great mood as expected. Just overall a great weekend and made me envy all the SoCal TMBers that can make cheaper trips with a group of friends more often.
when I'm bored I look at http://oyster.com and cruise through pics of vegas hotels cosmopolitan looks awesome, we should stay there next trip AggieVillain
looks kinda pricey for what you get tbh, especially the suites... aria or vdara might be better options right in that same area if we're trying to be frugal, but I'm down to get a nicer hotel this time personally, not sure if everyone else will agree with that though
Should be able to work that down quite a bit. Make sure all of you put your TR cards down every time you gamble and then go to the VIP area and see if they'll take anything off your room before you check out.
I've been down for that the past couple trips. IYAM, I say either Aria, Bellagio or Caesars. But that's just me
I would vote for aria out of those three, with bellagio and caesars tied in second or vdara since it's attached to aria and appears to be the same thing but cheaper
saw that, it sucks, those bathrooms would be wrecked come 3am. also saw that IP was getting removed/remodeled/something for the new caesars palace link.
We'll see what we can do. Me and my other buddy will gamble a solid bit. My limit is around $500/night for the 3 nights. Not sure about the other guys. Was in AC a couple weekends ago and played BJ for about 6 hours and was 2-6x the table minimum most of the night ($25) including a table max bet ($1000). Was up about 2500-2800 and ended up losing it all on 6 or so hands. Went to bed dejected, figured I'd at least have enough for breakfast the next morning. Checked and I had $7.82. Fuck the Tropicana. Hopefully LV will be a little more lenient.
Gotta know when to pocket some winnings homie. No way you should have walked away any worse than even.
Yeah, it was bad. Real bad. Was pretty angry at myself about that. On my $1000 hand dealer showed a 9 and I got a fucking 13. Wanted to rage. I busted w/ a 9 and of course she had a face card under it. I'm bad about not taking money off the table. I know some people that will take $100 chips off the table and just keep their bank at an even level. I need to subscribe to this tactic.
You gotta figure out what will work for you. I never bring down more than I'm willing to lose in a night, and when I'm up big I have no problem pocketing (at minimum) what I brought down to play with. If you can't hold yourself to that, I'd advise letting a buddy you trust hold the chips that you don't want to put back - even better if he can run them up to your room for you. I've seen that tactic work well also, though there is inevitably a point where you'll be drunk asking for your chips, and your buddy is gonna have to be an asshole and not let you have them.
yeah, i read that, it will be a "scaled down version" so you are correct, it will likely suck dicks*. *unlikely they have a dick sucking mechanism on-site.
Yeah, I leave my ATM card in the room and don't know my CC pin number. So once I'm out, I'm out. Biggest issue is being up, starting to lose, want to get it back and bet bigger and lose quicker instead of the rather steady smaller/double table minimum bets that brought you there. Rational thinking in a casino feeding you all the whiskey drinks I want??? What is that?
that would be pretty sweet if they did though last time I was there we went on a craps bender that started at o'sheas at like midnight and ended at o'sheas at like 10:30 the next morning... in between we were at harrahs, IP, bills and maybe a couple others o'sheas wasn't swanky or anything but it was the only place I knew of where you could play $5 craps basically on the sidewalk of the strip
I think that's pretty normal, granted I think I probably would've pulled out before losing all $2800 or whatever you had, but I would've definitely started making bigger bets if it makes you feel any better, guy I know lost $4k at ameristar in KC a couple weeks back
