What is the scenario in which the Cousins signing and Penix pick are looked back on a decade from now where people say "Atlanta was proven right"? I'm thinking Cousins has to start a minimum of 2 years, continue playing like the 10-12th best QB, and then Penix takes over and has to be at least a top 10 QB from the jump. And as unlikely as those things are, even that seems like bare minimum for this to make sense.
I don't think we know what "as good as Jordan Love" means yet. If Love proves to be a top 10 QB, then I guess we're saying the same thing.
Same here. He’s huge and comes from a good family(his brother played at Tulsa and is currently playing for the Commanders)
the only scenarios I’d say are either ATL wins the Super Bowl and Cousins rides off into the sunset after 1 or 2 years (lol no), or the opposite end of the spectrum where Kirk gets seriously injured in the next 2 years. The only way ATL gets proved right is if Penix gets into the mix earlier than expected and by necessity imo
As dumb as the pick was, all they need to do is be right on Penix. This is just a more high profile version of what the seahawks did with Russel after signing Matt Flynn to that massive contract.
I think the bar for "being right on Penix" goes up of you're drafting him in the top 10 and not playing for several years behind a solid current guy, right?
Man, the Falcons on Hard Knocks in 2025 is going to be must see TV. I don’t normally wake up and immediately need content about a team that isn’t a rival in any way. Today, all I want to know is every minute detail that went in to the Atlanta Falcons making the dumbest draft decision since Andre drafted an incarcerated Plaxico Buress in season 1 of The League.
You say that but everyone is jerking off the Packers right now for Jordan Love. It doesn't matter now that they ignored Aaron Rodgers desperate need for WRs so they could draft his successor who sat for a while.
Just my opinion but I think Atl should of given that 2nd for Fields and drafted Turner/Verse/Latu instead of the debacle they chose instead.
There's a pretty significant difference between taking Jordan Love with the 26th pick and taking Michael Penix with the 8th pick. The bar for the guy taken 8th is automatically higher than the guy taken 26th.
fair, I obviously don’t follow the saints too closely and the first I heard of it was after his 2018 season, but kudos to him then
I love him so much, Bert Handsome #GrossiPosse https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2024...ckers-fan-tom-grossi-nfl-draft-terrion-arnold
I completely agree. I'm just saying if 4 years from now Michael Penix is tearing up the league, nobody will give a shit that the Falcons sucked in 2024 because they used a pick on Penix instead of getting a weapon for Kirk Cousins.
Day 2 predictions - Bills just continue to trade back forever - Falcons take a kicker - Chiefs get whoever has done the worst crimes - Roger Goodell passes out drunk on stage
Bo Nix going top 15 off vibes and nothing else has to be one of the more insane career arcs for anyone that's watched one game of his college career, specifically the Auburn part of his college career. Being a half decent college QB might be the new fired college college as far as security and earning potential as desperate as these NFL teams are for QBs.
Bo Nix might've been QB1 next year if he could get himself another year of eligibility. Not exactly an inspiring group at this point.
As a casual observer, my biggest issue with the Penxis pick is that his name looks too much like penis to ever be taken seriously. Thank you for subscribing to my draft analysis.
