I moved out here in a quad cab truck and subsequently drove it about 5-6 times a year. Loved that truck though, Nissan Titan. Drove it so infrequently I would have to get it jumped whenever we wanted to go somewhere.
what kind of things are you doing 8 times a year that you need a trailer? genuinely curious, I know questions like this can come off cunty.
Have not used it much this year. I also have used it to help move some of my grandmothers stuff and take a bench to my parents
For long drives? I can make an 8 hour round trip in my work F-250 on less than half a tank of diesel.
only things I would ever need a truck for as a homeowner are probably landscaping stuff like dirt/mulch/stone or firewood. and all of those things I usually plan with a neighbor or two to order in bulk and they deliver it to us.
Seems to me that if you want a truck, go ahead and buy one. If not, then don’t. Thank you for your consideration and letting me weigh in on this important topic.
My brother was doing that because he rides his Harley everyday and had a car for days when the weather was bad so he was always having to borrow his neighbors truck and got tired of it. Bought a nice older used truck and only puts a few thousand miles a year on it.
I’ll tell you what I’m tired of, all these dogs and children driving around in their oversized trucks
The gas mileage isn’t great but it’s handy when I need to take stuff to and from the lake house a few times a year.
Yes but right now diesel is cheaper than mid grade and premium gasoline. I spent more money taking our Civic to a work site than I ever did taking my work truck.
But also trucks are bad and are responsible for the US insane pedestrian fatality rate especially among children
Shitty parents: “everyone should drive a Fiat. When I’m having fun my kids aren’t my problem!” Me, a Jeep Grand Cherokee Man: “this road sure has gotten bumpy.”
My wife said it's ridiculous, but I'm glad I bought my sky crane cause it really helps me out come spring time
1) why would you put mid grade or premium in a civic 2) let’s assume you’re weird and put premium ($4.01) in your civic and diesel ($3.66) in your truck. The civic’s mpg is at least 1.5 times better than your truck’s. You’re spending less on gas at 35 cents more per gallon, not more.
As a pickup driver I’m offering the final take on the discussion at hand If you drive a normal sized pickup (Colorado, F150, Tacoma, etc) then whatever. I drive one because I like the way larger vehicles handle and it’s cheaper than an SUV. If you drive an F350 (or similar) without some sort of justification then you’re a douchebag Glad we could settle this
Technically I don’t spend any money on gas because I have a gas card or can expense it, but saying trucks are pointless is just not true. I’d never spend $80k on one but they’re fun to drive and they have their benefits over other automobiles. An 8 hour round trip in a fully loaded F-250 is really comfortable and it’s nice being in that size of an automobile. Hell, our next car will probably be an electric SUV.
I drive an old Ford Ranger. It's about the smallest truck you can get outside a Kei-Truck. I'm also rebuilding the engine for a late 00s Subaru. I support whatever is utilitarian for you and your needs.
I drive an old trailblazer (only 75k miles) but I take my wife’s car to work. I’ve never went and picked out a car and taken out a loan and purchased one and I’m almost 42.
Me neither brother The subaru I'm working on my parents bought with the insurance check we got from my car getting totaled by the Tuscaloosa tornado. So I'm excited to get it working again for hauling dogs especially. Two dogs will not fit in a single cab Ranger.
My blazer was my grandmother’s who never drove it. She hated driving and lives 5 mins from my parents so one of us would just go pick her up and take her home. She basically had it for emergencies or if she just wanted to run to the store. When she passed away my mom and uncle were going to sell it and I needed a new one since I had over 300k miles on my explorer so I just bought it off them because I knew it was basically brand new.
The funniest thing about that whole topic is the number of times I've seen it come up outside TMB and every time I think back to the inside joke of TMB. Like even in the context of boating they advise that your fish boxes will function much better if you throw a bunch of ice in them ahead of time and get them cooled down prior to using them. Basically pre chilling them. As always I was right all along. As for me being a woman......what of it?
My grandpa had something like this at his mountain house to use for work around the property. Loved that thing.
Dad bought one of these in red when he was living and working in North Dakota. I rebuilt the carburetor on it several years back now and got it running but it just needs way more work than I can deal with for a less practical but beautiful truck that I'd love to have as a weekend fishing truck.
It looks like maybe there are some little nugs woven into the nest, but they could just be blooms of some other grasses that look similar. Hard to say.
