Tang is an interesting dude. He seems engaging on the surface but something about him seems a little.... disingenuous? I think? I can't quite put my finger on it. I like him better than the last moron KSU had in charge at least. And either he wants to get in one of the two remaining conferences or wants to move to one he could actually win someday. Between KU, Zona and Houston, let alone the ISUs of the world, it ain't happening for KSU anytime soon here in the GOAT conference.
have a feeling this is going to drag out for at least 4-5 more days. our AD is one of the worst in the country
My gosh it's happening. And after all the curse words I have hurled at him since his days in Memphis too
Have 30 years of hatred I’m going to have to navigate Glad we didn’t hire Beard, and glad we didn’t have some lazy hire like Jans or something. Cal is on the back end of his career but obviously can still recruit. Im glad one of our big money folks finally stepped up in athletics and decided our AD and BOT are going to fuck this up so I gotta do it myself now do football… or don’t I really don’t care. Use all the $ for basketball and baseball
This "splash" hire is 20 years too late. Dude has proven time and time again he is a tremendous underachiever
I don’t think anyone is expecting us to win a title. Win games and compete near the top of the league, recruit at a high level, and engage our fucking big money folks to invest in the program so that we can have some sustained success
Were there some big boosters that didn't like Muss? Curious why extra NIL money is all of a sudden available.
Hunt’s had financed our teams recently and they had soured on Muss, and were going to start scaling back their support as a result. We needed another one of our billionaires to step up and they did.
Its going to be a very strange feeling watchin Nolan standing next to Cal in a Razorback jumper making small talk in BWA. I have hated Cal for years but respect him a ton. His recruiting is going to be incredible and hopefully Pitt can learn a thing or two. I would love to see Pitt figure it all out but that may be a bridge too far.
When HY starts trying to and celebrate this like a personal victory/accomplishment I’m gonna laugh so hard.
Flash aside, this will end up being a meh move. We’ll be doing this rodeo again in 3-5 years with no hardware to show for it
No one should expect to win titles with him, but we can win 25+ games a season and get to tourney every year and compete for SEC titles, get some more NBA draft picks to build the reputation up some more… and then hopefully replace him with another high profile name. The biggest news is getting these billionaires to start having a dick measuring contest with our athletic program.
Maybe. I don’t think we are championship or just. Get to the sweet 16 a couple times and everyone will be happy
Muss recruited like that for one year and absolutely hated dealing with all those freshman, but still went to the sweet 16. I think the expectation should be S16 type seasons every year. I’m sure we will fall short at times because of Calipari getting out coached. Maybe we get lucky and he has a good run these first couple years here like he did at UK. The school and one of our boosters showing that they are willing to put $20 million on a staff and a team to compete is huge
r/razorbacks Thoughts on Cal from a Memphis fan and Hog supporter I’m a Memphis alum and lifelong Tiger basketball fan. However, both parents and many other relatives are Arkansas grads so I’ve always pulled for the Hogs. First off, great hire! I don’t think Yurachek could have done better and he deserves a lot of credit. This is a bold hire that I think will pay off. I was in the front row for the full John Calipari experience at Memphis. Good, Bad, and everything in between. So as a PSA I’d like to give some idea of what you can expect in the coming weeks, months, and years. Cal will win you over quickly. I have never before or since seen someone with such a gift of persuasion. He would be the top salesperson in any industry in the world. In fact, when boiled down, that’s really what he is…a salesperson. He has just chosen to apply it in basketball. Cal has no shame. He will repeat demonstrably false statements over and over until you start to question reality. He’s the original gaslighter. This will grow old. Cal will get players. Go back and take a look at his rosters for the last 20 years at Memphis and UK. It’s actually quite striking that he’s only won one national championship with that slew of talent. Put some of that Tyson/Walmart money behind him and watch out! Cal will disappoint you. He will lose games that he shouldn’t. He can get out coached, and his teams tend to have the same weaknesses year after year. He’s probably got another 5-6 good years left and NOBODY holds a grudge like Cal. It will end badly. It has everywhere else he’s been. This will be no exception. But he may have just enough left in the tank for one more NC.
He was going to retire medically, was going through some severe depression. Not sure who convinced him to come back
Augustave hit the portal right after our spring game. Sucks because I think he had a lot of potential as an all purpose back, but definitely has his flaws. Only saw a few plays but seems he liked running east/west a little too much in the scrimmage. And he’s a Jimmy Smith recruit so maybe he follows him
