Haven’t binged it yet. Everyone I know irl says it’s really good so far. originally planned to read at least the first book before watching but haven’t had time to and the fiancé says we’re starting the show tonight
Have a 6 hour flight tomorrow. Got these downloaded and ready to go will report back. Have only heard good things. Book was pretty awesome
Glad there's now a thread. I want to re-watch it soon. There's so many cool ideas packed in this season.
Pretty good season. it did feel at the end of the season like there was a bit of wasted potential, but still damn good. A- I did love them showing nuclear pulse propulsion and a struggle session on screen. I have always had a hard time visualizing a struggle session during the cultural revolution. They brought it to life, and it was just as terrifying as it should be. oh, and Saul telling Auggie that ‘She was beautiful in a boring way. Like an actress in a bad action movie’ was savage.
Episode 7 was really well done. Spoiler: Couldn’t believe sir davos just dropping the R word like that
I finished it last night and thought it was very good. I think I prefer the tencent version because it had 22 more episodes to expand on everything, but I'm kind of a fan of multiple studios making different adaptations so close together. The main complaint I have with the Netflix version is that it has maybe the most inaccurate depiction of cancer that I've ever seen in a show.
Finished last night. Great season. First 5 eps reeled me in. Final 3 eps setup a pretty good story for future seasons. Considering if they spend $20M/ep, it'd be pretty crazy to not renew the show and finish it out considering they basically spend $60M setting up for the rest of the story.
Spent an hour trying to figure his name out and then googled and was like high sparrow wtf that was his name
Yeah I remember when GoT was airing there were some conspiracy theories that the High Sparrow’s real identity was Reed Howland but alas that never came to fruition and the High Sparrow was just some anon rando
Watched the Panama Canal scene last night. I knew what was coming but did not expect it to be that brutal.
Good show, but I continue to be very annoyed at how seasons of television shows are completed without any level of resolution of any main plot points. That ending is jarringly arbitrary.
it’s based on a trilogy so I’m assuming there will be more??? interestingly enough that the first season borrowed from all three books i think
What did they pull from the other books, cuz the show seems to track from what I remember from the first book (which I read years ago).
Imo they did a really good job adapting it for TV. If they did a straight shot for shot w the book - it would be just bunch of isolated story lines and half the show would be science lectures lol
They did a great job getting casting the detective and Saul/Luo Ji. They were my favorite characters.
The Chinese version is very true to the books it’s on prime. The special effects are painful but everything else is very good
Just realized Auggie is Jon Hamm's crazy hot, crazy, girlfriend in Baby Driver. So there's 3 books? Are they good?
books are heavy. Translated from Chinese. I really liked the first two. The series on prime follows the books pretty closely. I couldn’t name a difference at all I’m about halfway through, and if I’d watched the prime series first, I’d have been pretty underwhelmed by the Netflix series
Is the Chinese version just 1 season? All three books and the ending included or will there be a season 2? TIA.
The series diverges from the books quite a bit actually. But the plot is pretty much the same so far. I think theyve made good changes that make for good TV. Fargin' Icehole - I really liked the books. They are very dense and long. But some of the most unique sci-fi Ive read. I really liked them but they're not easy or quick reads.
Am I the only one that noticed the cunt from the Iron Bank of Braavos played Sir Isaac Newton (I think it was Newton could have been Turing)
