I thought the first few episodes were meh. It definitely got better towards the back half of the series. Overall kinda let down after years of anticipation for this series. Like others have said, they didn’t do a great job of getting you to connect to the characters. Maybe I went into it expecting too much after BoB/the Pacific.
Man, how cathartic would it be to fly over the continent, not getting shot at or chased by fighters, and drop food stuffs instead of explosives?
That in memoriam section hits like a ton of bricks. This is a really good show. I think with more viewings you'll get the attachment to the characters. Band of Brothers required several watches to get to that stage for me.
Same w BoB the only characters I really connected with in the initial watch were Lipton, Winters and Doc Roe because they had focus episodes. Buck also because he gave a fantastic performance.
Just noticed an hour long documentary called the bloody hundredth showed up tonight. Looks like some real life interviews with some of the guys. Sorry if this is old news
I watched it. It was pretty good. I probably would have been more invested in some of the characters if I had watched that documentary first.
It was good, and lined up well with some things that happened in the series. Nice to see some real life talk from Rosie
And they didn’t even allude to the fact that he got shot down twice and returned to duty both times. In the show, they sort of blended it into one event.
The 100th was just filled with intelligent and badass humans “After the war, Cleven earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Ph.D. in interplanetary physics” Crosby helped write most of the Air Force Academy curriculum too.
Probably to do with the Elvis accent and just his overall popularity, but no complaints from anyone since Dune 2…
I posted about it early itt but apparently it did stick after he did that movie. I haven’t seen Dune 2 yet (just rewatched the first one) but I think he did a good job in this. Him and Bucky were both cheesy but that’s kinda of the point of these characters.
Croz does absolutely nothing for me. Actually hated his little speech about “how all this killing we do changes a man” when he’s spent more time chasing pussy having an affair in England than he did in actual combat. probably more of a poor choice in the writing giving us a lot of screen time of him going on dates than the actual character. Really really hard to feel anything for the guy
Really love all the other characters except him though. His cute little affair took away a lot of screentime that could have built up some of the characters doing meaningful stuff. honestly had the same problem with the love affair episode in the Pacific. I’m not watching these shows to see excerpts of The English Patient.
Show ended up being quite good, despite Austin Butler and the weird love affair. Would’ve been top tier without those
Show was solid. Not sure I’ll ever rewatch it like I do/did with BoB and Pacific. Why did they storm the POW camp at the end when their own men were still in there? I was so confused
And let's just have a feel good flight at the end of the show where all our main characters get in one plane one last time, including our only named mechanic who we've seen 2 times before this, and have them go on a free flight to drop supplies on occupied people. *jerk off motion*
Like actually happened where it was Buck, Rosie, Cruz, and the mechanic? I know those flights actually happened, and it's completely unsurprising that the the Thanks Yanks happened. Bit all the main characters in one plane? Come on. Bucky in the tower greeting them home? Come on.
