Love BoB and probably watched it four or five times, but for some reason I've never watched the Pacific.
"Band of Brothers (land) and its sister series The Pacific (sea) did the same thing Masters of the Air (sky) is doing: costing a lot of money, having an impeccable cast, being very good, and, crucially, toeing a careful line. It does not glorify war but depicts how impossibly young men dealt with it, then shows the true violent horror in a series of visceral, genre-defining action scenes. In Masters, the action sequences are superb – you are on the outside of a bomber with an engine failing, or you are hanging out over clouds with nothing but a crackling window between you and oblivion, or you are watching Barry Keoghan and Austin Butler do a take-off check-list from the nose of the propeller (an oddly gripping scene: I’d probably watch these two read a phonebook at each other)." https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-...ar-story-is-the-first-must-watch-show-of-2024
I thought the commercial showed really bad CGI. Now that the embargo is lifted. I’m reading a lot of complaints about how bad it looks in the reviews. No matter how far we advanced technologically, CGI just really sticks out. Especially on TV.
My wife’s great uncle, Francis Harper, is played by Philip Lewitsky. Apparently he’s in two episodes.
Enjoyed the first episode. Expected worse CGI based on this thread. It’s as good or better than the other CGI-heavy Apple+ shows I’ve watched. Maybe it’s an A+ studio thing
Same. My expectations on stuff like that are obviously waaaay different than other people’s on this board.
Issue with CGI is the screen technology has advanced so much that what used to be really realistic is now very obviously CGI.
I’m also operating on a 14 year old TV, so my picture probably doesn’t highlight that stuff as much as a new, better one would.
He had to see a dialect coach to help try and lose the Elvis accent. Reminds me more of Johnny Depp in this.
The cgi was noticeable but it’s not like there are many flying fortresses around for practical shots. It is what it is. Didn’t really take me out of the moment though
good friend works at the 8th air force museum in savannah and is super excited for this. got to tour a couple weeks ago and it's very much worth a visit liked the first two episodes. feels like a carbon copy of band of brothers but it works
I've been enjoying the hell out of the acting by all the main characters. hell the minor ones too. Butler gives it a little bit of a memphis belle feel yelled pretty loud at curt tonight
The real story of Curt’s plane is even crazier Spoiler Long story short, they got hit in the oxygen compartment by flak that started an uncontrollable fire. Everyone on the flight deck was trapped inside. The copilot crawled out a flak hole in the fuselage, reached back in to grab his parachute, and hit the wing when he jumped which killed him. Curt, still alive, maneuvered away from a small village in order to minimize collateral damage.
Spoiler: spoiler I'm guessing they paid homage to that when they showed butlers wing bisecting an airman that had jumped out of a plane.
I think Butler and Barry K are knocking it out of the park in this. All of the acting has been great and loving the series.
I went there this past summer on the way back to the airport from HHI, really cool place. They had my grandpa's brother's squadron stuff hung up and it was really neat to see.
What an odd episode Spoiler Oh hey, the main character is dead. Were just gonna focus on a 48 hour pass to France for Bucky and not show what happened to Cleven. Wtf?
Was about to say they can't have brutal, intense combat scenes every single episode of people dying, but they kinda did in BoB.
