The part where the dude hulked out. What the fuck. It's becoming more and more obvious why Cavill noped out of this shit show.
I like anything with Michelle Yeoh. I don’t know anything about Witcher lore but I enjoyed seeing the convergence
I kind of think the convergence is one of those events that should have remained a mystery. Because no matter what explanation you give it, it will feel lackluster. Kind like Rings of Power trying to explain the origin of mithril. It just felt unnecessary. At least to me.
Since Netflix's metric for success is probably purely viewing numbers, I'm not gonna even bother watching Blood Origins (doesn't sound like I'm missing much). I actually enjoyed S1 of TW a lot, and was excited for the future. S2 was just dog shit though. Eskel dying in the 2nd episode, I was like "ok, that's dumb, but let's see where they take this". When Ciri started murdering all the witchers in Khaer Moren, it was just like what in the literal fuck is going on with this show? Really loved how all the people who were closest to Geralt (Yennefer, Vesemir) were so willing to stab him in the back and risk Ciri's life for their own personal gain, despite knowing how important she was to him. Departure from source material aside, it's just shitty writing. I can understand why Cavill wanted to walk away. It's a shame, because Netflix had all the pieces in place to make a good and memorable series, and they've completely fucked it up. I'm not even excited for S3, but my curiosity will get the better of me and I'll watch it. Can't see this show working without Cavill.
Watch this if you want to know just how bad it is. This guy maybe exaggerates a bit but not that much.
Oh I don't mean the backstory behind it, but the actual "oh planets merged and combined etc" part. That part would be difficult for the average tv viewer to grasp.
It’s not only Eskel dying, it’s that his character (along with pretty much all the rest of the witchers) is beyond the pale wrong. Eskel is one of the most decent and earnest witchers, basically the everyday man, and adored Ciri. Him being a completely baseless asshole and lout was beyond absurd. Vesemir would NEVER have let the witchers bring a bunch of hookers to Kaer Morhan. Yen spent decades doing everything possible to have a daughter, even if it cost her her own magical abilities, so that whole situation is not only wrong, it’s completely contrary to the motives of her character. That’s just the starter list of the shitshow that was Season 2.
Agreed on all of this. Season 2 was so bad it can't be fixed. At least for me. How do you bring Yen back from trying to sell off Ciri? There's no way that works.
Two episodes in to Blood Origins and not hating it. I think there is a pretty decent gap between book readers and people who don’t know the story. I appreciate being a book reader and the disappoint of change, especially when characters are entirely changed. That said, looking at it with bo bias I am enjoying both series. They are not top shows, but certainly entertaining to scratch the itch of not too much out there in the day of fantasy genre. don’t get me wrong, this is not a good show. I probably give it a stretch at 7, but it serves a purpose.
And you may still enjoy it. I'm not trying to shit on anyone else's opinion. I'm not even judging it from a book or game perspective. I just thought it was bad tv. Syfy channel has better visuals than this show and I thought the writing was flat out atrocious. HBO should be the only place allowed to do fantasty at this point because everyone else is really bad at it.
Yes, I was being generous with a 7, but one of the things about bingeable shows is a lot depends on your mood that day. Today is a rainy, foggy. miserable day in NY where I just want something mindless. This is definitely mindless.
Oh no doubt. I've watched some questionable things in my time out of boredom. It makes it tougher though when it's something you're a fan of and want it to be good.
Finished. It was good enough to entertain, but very childlike in terms of storytelling. The hulk stuff was weird, but I just assumed he was a Witcher, and I guess in retrospect that was my bad since they explained he was a monster. I think character development could have been better if there were more episodes, so you just had to accept fairytale relationships. As a non-book reader I see value in it in terms of building the show mythology. The cut scene at the end was interesting.
I think it was originally supposed to be 6 episodes and a lot of content got cut. So that explains why some characters barely have any thing going on.
I'm pretty checked out at this point. I just can't see them turning this thing around. Probably only going to get worse.
I saw some article saying they tried to fix a lot of shit from season 2 in the first few episodes. I’m not holding my breath.
I'll watch because, why not, but I am not expecting much. Season 1 was pretty solid. Season 2 felt like it went off the rails a bit.
On episode 3 and loving it. My goodness I didn’t think Yennifer could get any hotter but I was definitely wrong.
It’s just ok, better than s2 I guess. The first season was great because it had a big focus on Witcher activities and not just the Ciri plot. Such a waste of Cavill being the perfect Geralt.
Yeah having the new actor is going to ruin it for me and I’ll probably not watch it. Cavill is the perfect Witcher.
I only have any idea from just knowing game lore, pretty terrible job of them covering it in the series.
