I love how mike white has themed each season. Season 1 it was all about how money buys power and with that power, you can control so much. Shane controls his wife and armond Laina is so desperate for money that she goes into labor and stays on the job Belinda is so desperate she lets herself get hurt by Tanya even though everyone saw it coming. Nicole has the power over her family and husband. all of these people flaunt their wealth all season and leave a trail of distructon in their wake without a care in the world. season 2. Sex. The great equalizer. the whole season everyone is using sex to take what they want. There’s a similar amount of destruction left in their wake but it’s now spread equally rather than just the rich raping the poor.Would have been so easy to have the show end the same as season 1. The rich walk away Scott free and the poor don’t. But that wasn’t the theme such a well written show.
It’s not the end of the world. Can just treat season one like a prequel then. You know the end game with Tanya. But everyone else will be new
season 1 better disagree, so many ultra high end resort folks eat like ONE meal outside the property during their trip especially at warm weather beach spots
That was great. Had zero experience with WL. Didn't see any of S1 for instance. S2 was great without having a clue who was in S1. Only thing I wasn't happy about is that I figured out 2 out of the 3 endings really early on.
Mike White’s speech was awesome. He said something like “I wanted to do this show with Jennifer and all of you passed. So this is a gratifying moment for me.”
Yea I’m pretty sure hbo and mike white came together during Covid to make the white lotus. HBO May have even approached him to make a self contained show that could be filled in one place due to the restrictions everywhere. Pretty sure I heard that on a podcast
just finished both seasons in like 4 days, wonderful show now I need a flashback or prequel season starring Armond like I need air to breathe
The wife and I are trying to get through it when the kid goes to bed. Big fan of the first season and really liking this season as well.
Finished season 1 last night. One of our best friends is an irl Rachel. They did really well with that dynamic. Our friend is a doctor so she’s super smart and super pretty but it’s easy for a mid to upper 20s person to get wooed by the glamour and glitz and swept away even though their suitor is a complete ass. The constant “hot wife” comments hit close to home because it’s something we as friends always brought up when discussing her future family. “Why do they only compliment your looks? We never hear them talk about how smart you are or your time volunteering at the clinic.” But what really jumped out that I didn’t see talked about much, the mom and the constant bombardment of “the wedding I planned.” We know it’s tradition for the wife’s family to plan/pay for the wedding and in our friends situation her future MIL telling her it wasn’t extravagant enough and that she would handle the planning/expenses was one of the most belittling experiences of her life. Loved how every time the mom brought it up you could see Rachel die a bit more inside. Just a constant reminder that you and your family are not worthy of this position we’re giving you so consider yourself lucky. Happy ending though. After 3 months she realized how fucking stupid she was. We just told her to cut bait then and there but again, she’s a doctor, she’s smart. She spent 21 months filling her schedule 24/7 with volunteer work, social outings, like random pottery/cooking/golf lessons. She quit putting out and once he stopped asking she was able to find messages in his phone with girls he was sleeping with. Long story short, the prenup had an alimony escalation after 2 years and another if there was proof of infidelity/abuse/etc. 2 weeks after their 2nd anniversary he came home and her stuff was all gone and he was served with the papers. She has a great life now, a fresh check in the bank account every month. Works 2 days a week, volunteers at a free clinic for 2 days. I would hope Rachel’s story would end the same but I’m assuming she gets a knife to the stomach as well someday.
Did S1 and S2 back to back. Shane is probably the most unlikeable TV character in a while. Feel like Aubrey Plaza deserved all the awards for Harper. She stole every scene.
Just finished both seasons myself. really good. It’s odd, it was so tense and awkward and uncomfortable, I found it hard to laugh at the funny parts. Plaza has some damn acting chops
HBO landing on a terrible actor that needs to fake an American accent is very funny, show is flawless outside of him
You’re upset about an English actor faking an American accent? You might be devastated to hear about (INSERT THE ~80% OF CURRENT HOLLYWOOD MEGASTARS WHO ARE JUST ENGLISH PEOPLE WITH AMERICAN ACCENTS)
I'm upset he's bad at acting, those megastars I'm well aware of are actually good. It's funny they landed on him with so many options. Serious business with the caps lock.
I thought he played the part well Every time I have to meet with a student named Ethan now I’m picturing that guy
just started this yesterday, got to the part where the Hotel Manager just gave the girls their backpack back sans the drugs. What a ride so far. This isn't the type of show I typically watch so I'm curious to see how this all plays out.
