Watching through the first episode so far, good first hour. Never played the games so interesting to see where it goes.
Think the discussion is all happening here https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/hbo-creating-last-of-us-tv-series.179687/page-4
If the last video game I played was Mario kart on my N64, Higher than a giraffes ass, would I enjoy this show?
I've never played the video game (because I'm always waist deep in pussy), and I loved the first episode.
Ignore the gamer nonsense. I have never played the game. ATM it's your standard end of days save the child scenario. But it was great and fun to watch.
20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed, Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Watched the first episode last night. I’m not a gamer so I’m going in blind. Had a feeling there was going to be a gut punch but man it didn’t make it any easier.
really liked it last night. know of the game (and the general story) but haven't played it. as with all adaptions, really not looking forward to the (unintentional?) spoilering from those "in the know" so probably going to stay out of this thread until the end of the season.
I don’t know what to call the creatures other than zombies. Not going to name each by their game names Spoiler clickers bloaters etc
that’s probably better I think I’ve always kinda played it as a zombie game it made sense to explain like that.
I watched the episode and thought it was alright. Just not excited about another zombie show/movie. I’m going to guess this is like a girl with all the gifts plot (or even children of men even though it isn’t zombie) -is it a limited series? -is there an actual ending they have already? Or is it going to be like walking dead?
Sounds like from an interview with the show creators that this season is the first game and they might do a second season but they’re not going to drag it out.
Never played the game and think I'm about where you're at. Seems like I would have been excited about it 10 years ago, but the genre is so saturated at this point. First episode was entertaining, but I'm not pining for more
I think LoU show (and game) took a very different track compared to Walking Dead by having a 20 year time jump. The machinations of difference factions forming, citadels, and the evolution of the infected makes way more sense with a time jump. It puts the show in a unique position that didn’t really work for me with Walking Dead.
as someone who doesn't consume much zombie content, this show is fresh af for me. Not that the infected are zombies anyways
I’m a sucker for any post-apocalyptic type show. Don’t love “zombies” but like anything disease related. Was always a big fan of the books Hot zone and the devil the in the freezer.
The infected are zombies in everything except for name. Spoiler their evolution into clickers and bloaters etc is the only real difference
We have finite genres in horror “monsters” the infected clearly fall into the zombie subset. I don’t anyone who looks at them and thinks “well that’s obviously not a zombie “. there is something similar in the walking dead too Spoiler except in TWD it was evolution on intelligence and not appearance
The concept of zombies becoming intelligent has existed for awhile. Back to Robert Matheson’s “vampire zombies” in I Am Legend forming a society to George A Romero’s Living Dead series. My nerd distinction comes from the differences between a virus and bacteria vs a fungi. I look at the fungi infection like I do an alien taking over a human’s body like Night of the Creeps or The Hidden. The entity itself is changing.
The plot in the game is fantastic independent of "zombies." It's about the characters who just happen to be living in a world with fungus infected zombies.
Couple V-22 Ospreys just flew over, never seen them do that before. Last of Us is the first thing I thought of hopefully they'll bomb this fucking definition of a zombie tangent
this movie is a fungus that controls the brain basically as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Girl_with_All_the_Gifts_(film)
Right. Like with zombies the virus kills the person then they come back from the dead and try and spread it. With the infected the host person isn’t dead, in fact the fungus keeps the host alive per the first scene.
