“We all know the story of John Henry, Kenneth” “Well, then, I have another story. It’s about a virgin who gave birth to a man who had some funny ideas. That virgin is my sister. And her son, Lyle, has a learning disability.”
“Teddy sprained his ankle running from some black guys who pulled a gun on him.” “Now why is it important to tell me that the muggers were black?” “They weren’t muggers, they were cops.” “Then why not just say cops?” “I don’t know. You’re racist for assuming they weren’t cops.”
I showed up without a bra one day and I was viciously harassed, until I put on a shirt. Kills me everytime
There’s also little doubt that America’s Kids Got Singing would be one of the highest rated shows on television if it were real
I love Kristen Schaal but I never understood why Liz continued to put up with Hazel’s shit because she was her “mentor” and got nothing in return. Maybe it was vanity on Liz’s part and she just overlooked that her mentee had no redeemable qualities, but either way the Hazel character was the only real misstep in an otherwise perfect show. Not sure why a sweetheart like Kenneth put up with her either.
Phoebe was obviously annoying but in a good way that worked with the show and didn't take you out of the episode. And yeah, Schaal is great but all the Hazel stuff is so grating and misbegotten. It's like they wanted to include an interesting and idiosyncratic performer but its all just so forced and unfunny. Def the shows biggest misstep.
I agree. Really the best Hazel jokes came from other characters’ reactions. Like when she tells Tracy she’s going to show him her “baby blues” and flashes him and his response is “Why are they blue?!” Or when she writes Pete an email as Liz to get on the show and Pete reads “Sup P-Dawg, blah blah blah, catch you on the floppy flop,” then says “That’s you!” to Liz.
I’ll also say that I don’t agree with Floyd being one of the worst characters. He’s certainly not on par with every other guest star but he was brought in very earlier to play the proverbial straight man love interest before the show really found it’s footing. His best line is when Liz tells him she “wolfed my teamster sub for you,” and his reply is “wait, is that a saying?”
I do think Floyd works in the show in a way the other two don't. Lots of good funny moments but also lots of moments where I think Sudeikis is riffing and just defaults to his cocky jerk persona and its kinda jarring and lame. A credit to the show that there is so relatively little to criticize.
"And on a personal note, sir, in my mind, the Foo Fighters' song ''Best of You'' is about your managerial skills."
This is pretty impossible but off the top of my head I’ll go with Larry King, Funcooker, 100 and Leap Day
It’s an impossible task. I don’t know how you can’t include the Dr Spaceman/Conan episode from season 1 or the now banned live show with the Jon Hamm blackface scene.
I think I’ve mentioned before that I pick a comedy and watched a couple episodes before I got to sleep. It’s something I like to do and that’s no matter how shitty the day was I like to end it with a laugh. I’m currently watching My Name is Earl because for some reason I thought maybe it would be funny. It isn’t. I think watching Raising Hope right before tricked my brain into thinking something else. Any way I think I need to abandon ship and jump into 30 Rock ASAP.
Yesterday at Costco I told my wife I tired. She asked me why and I said “it’s hard work keeping these marshmallows warm in the pockets of my dungarees” she said “what?” and I replied “I’m tired from keeping these marshmallows warm in the pockets of my dungarees” she looked at me pissed and said “I have no idea what you’re saying “. That’s what it’s like being married to me.
"You hear this mess about sometimes Y being a vowel? What a world." I've been using "What a world" to comment on odd things for years now and just realized thats where it came from.
and I would have let you know not to worry because I’ve been keeping them warm in the pockets of my dungarees
