I'd like to believe anything like Saving Private Ryan shows the realities and not some bs "glory" narrative. The raw visuals were there in Syria but obviously nothing with the American public.
I think people forget the fact Ukraine borders NATO countries means a lot. Russian invading Ukraine pushes us much closer to a world war than civil wars in the Middle East. I don’t know why smart posters like taking atrocities out of context so they can call people racist. It’s just weird to insinuate caring about this conflict means you don’t care about other ones.
Our renewable energy suite of incentives for businesses needs a major beef-up. Have to find a way to make it more profitable for energy companies to develop alternatives instead of relying on oil and gas slavery.
Lyrtch with respect, this is my issue. We can be upset about things in LA and not be bad people because we are less upset about Chicago. Sorry to get sidetracked.
I can think someones emotional reaction to this is deranged on the merits and be further compounded by the fact I've never seen these same people utter a word about atrocities the US has a literal hand in causing and are ongoing right now. Things we can address directly. We can have nuanced conversations here.
The US Covid response was an atrocity that I talked a ton about that we still can address directly but don’t. You barely did. Should I read something more into that? COVID deaths outstrip lots of things you spend a ton of time talking about. But no, I’m not going to assume that because you didn’t spend as much time as I did on Covid that you then can’t have an opinion on other things that have killed less people.
Was it posted ITT about Russian soldiers setting up an open-air bazaar in Belarus to sell shit taken from Ukrainian homes? P sure these two events are related. Beyond sickening.
Well I guess I should apologize for not having unlimited amount of time to learn abt all the different atrocities going on in every corner of the world and instead use the time I have to learn abt and read up on ones that hit closer to home for me. My bad. Guess I'm just a selfish asshole who shouldn't be allowed to speak on any topic since I can't speak on all the others as well.
yall are having wild reactions to the most basic critiques of american war hawk rhetoric and how its selectively used
No, we are reacting to your policing of this thread and trying to basically call everyone a racist who has chimed in on this thread but hasn't chimed in enough to your liking in the other threads abt atrocities in middle eastern countries. And because of not chiming in on those threads you make sure to call people out for it so you can seemingly jerk yourself off for being holier-than-thou.
who have i called a racist, its normal for people to react stronger to things happening where they've been (like you) or who have been socialized to see them as "peer" countries for whatever reasons its being an adult to think about why thats inadequate and to try to expand who they empathize with to the broader world. or you end up just propagating the narratives that get parroted in media about "western civilization" and such that dehumanizes people in areas that aren't western-centric.
I can't recall you calling anyone a racist itt, but you certainly imply it. Just because a poster hadn't commented on the horrible atrocities in the middle east shouldn't disqualify them from commenting on THIS conflict. ALL conflicts are bad, but I know you know that
Honestly though, the more war crimes that come out, it probably increases the likelihood that Ukraine gets those MiGs they wanted from Poland. It as also evaporated whatever pity I or anyone in the west might I have for the Russian soldiers sent to get killed by Putin. Push them into the Black Sea.
I never said they couldn't comment either. I was trying to understand the level of vitriol for this event and lack thereof from things that the US itself is doing and could fix or could be even more closely related to his stated demographic reasoning for being upset. If the response was "I didn't know about them" I'd have just said you might want to remedy that, but instead it became claiming we don't talk about them on TMB before descending into other attempts at deflecting.
people keep asking me questions or making up things i never said to screech at me for whatever reason i'll see you in Minsk to discuss peace terms
same. lets just relax, and move on. and i refuse to discuss peace terms until you unilaterally withdraw from all territory you've illegally taken in this thread.
Well shit. There you have it. If Lyrtch doesn’t have you in his atrocity outrage index you just better not say anything.
The Ukrainian Army and people are capable of pushing the Russians out of their country. I think we should give them the arms necessary and capable of doing that until it is done. I do not think NATO should start attacking the Russian armed forces because they have committed war crimes.
