It’s not my fault I’m over protective of Messi, but it’s just sad that his consistent brilliance leads to his seasons not being fully appreciated :(
He’s tied for the most Ballon D’or’s of all time and is mostly regarded as the best player of all time. Who isn’t appreciating him
That’s led to him placing 5th in last year’s Ballon D’or and potentially losing out on this year’s, despite having incredible seasons. If literally any other top league player put up Messi’s #s along with winning the league they’d be an absolute lock for the award.
There seemed to be plenty of comments about Messi not being the goat for people when Argentina lost in Copa
Messi is clearly the GOAT and it’s why I wish he’d win something in international competition just so the talk would stop.
It’s what I mean when I say he’s held to an unfair standard. Leads the UCL in scoring by a sizable margin, including two goals in each of the knockout ties Barca played, and somehow Barca having no midfield and forgetting to defend at Anfield gets held against him?
Crazy how Ronaldo hasn't had these problems despite playing on a much inferior international team. Maybe Messi just isn't a real leader and his teammates feed off his inability to handle a stressful situation?
Messi is clearly still the best player in the world...that doesn’t mean he has the best/most influential season every year though. It’s impossible to deny Virgil’s impact last year though, for club and country.
This debate is getting me excited for the season to start Yea. While Modric was great, he won that because of his teams’ accomplishments, which I don’t agree with.
VVD had an amazing year so I won’t be angry if he wins, though of course I think Messi deserves it over him.
Being the best player on a team that won the champions league and made the World Cup final absolutely should matter. There are awards for the highest scorer
Messi also gets little credit for leading Barca to winning La Liga handily most years. He’s made something that isn’t a formality (considering Real Madrid and Atletico) become so automatic that most people don’t even care.
I don’t remember Modric carrying either of those teams on his back or anything. Madrid were a well balanced machine and Rakitic/Perisic were arguably as important for Croatia.
Don’t really care for the Messi argument because I just don’t care. However if you’re saying Modric wasn’t the reason Croatia was in the final you’re delusional. He absolutely dominated during the World Cup.
I remember him dominating the group stage, the Argentina game especially, but I don’t remember him absolutely dominating the knockout stage and neither did Croatia really.
This going to end with juve backing out and inter paying 75 cents on the dollar toward the end of the window?
Modric had no business winning it. Especially when you include the fact that Xavi and Iniesta never did.
While this is true, it does show that their great season weren’t recognized because of Messi/Ronaldo and, imo, Modric shouldn’t have been either.
Modric didn’t have the best year in 18. He won because Croatia made the finals. Clearly he wasn’t carrying Madrid. Once Ronaldo left they imploded
Since when? I could see him preferring juve but lukaku has been pushing for a move to inter all summer until maybe a week ago when juve became an option.
I thought you were talking about the Dybala end of the deal. He seems intent on staying at Juve despite them being apparently intent on selling him.
