Midway through Kelly's post game press conference and I feel bad for him. He is toast, Wow does he look in bad shape. Go to 4:09 and look how he looks completely defeated. Never seen him like that. He looks deplorable Even with the money, he really seems to care. Sucks but he can't do it
Feels good to be on the same side now I never said it before because we were not on the same page but I love horses.
LSU: Ross Dellenger of The Advocate writes that LSU’s search is focused, once again, on Jimbo Fisher. After Fisher, Dellenger says LSU still believes Tom Herman would consider their offer. Thereafter, there seems to be a number of other largely offensive minded coaches, plus Ed Orgeron in the mix. At FootballScoop we hear that Jimbo is the target; but thereafter we hear Tom Herman is not pushing for this one; but hear Brian Kelly would entertain the phone call and could ultimately wind up being the choice. Sources tell FootballScoop LSU officials are telling representatives of coaches that they want this search done within days of LSU’s final game. We’ll keep you posted.
Interesting. I think he'd be a polar opposite of coaches of what they've had. He's spread and pass first which may be seen as a positive for LSU fans who've had awful offenses for a while and been a pound the rock all the time team. He could keep Aranda and just let him run the D. They will have even more talent than he had at ND. He develops qb play as well which LSU can't figure out. I'm curious though as ND fans who have a sense of realism know that LSU is a better job. And they would get a better option than ND for a hot coaching hire. So Kelly leaving for LSU would be an interesting take
It's hilarious how some of you are acting like the guy is the worst coach in the country. Meanwhile whomever coaches here next will get that title 4 years from now.
But anyway all this media attention about Kelly is all Trace Armstrong. LSU is not hiring Brian Kelly.
Never believed Kelly was going anywhere this year, but am starting to feel a USC-induced move. A 55-14 loss in which USC takes the foot off the pedal early in the 3rd quarter and ND never truly competes, may be the last straw in a season of gross underachievement.
I'm at the point where I am excited for Wimbush next year. He'll have some weapons whoever the coach is.
He's get a 10.7 million dollar buyout from UT. The number goes down if he takes another job. Not sure he will take a coaching job next year.
If we don't fire Kelly this season, I'll look forward to the complaints 4 years from now about the cupboard being bare because this recruiting class and next totally fall apart. You can't keep him at this point. It would be a total waste of a season that ends up setting the program back even more so.
ND has lost 7 games this season by 1 score. Difference between playing for something and playing for nothing. Give him 6 games next year 100%
i thought it was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? my sources were wrong
There are several, I don't think there is a coach who could consistently year in year out be in playoff contention at nd.
Kelly has had 1 team that would've made the playoff in 8 years. And a team that's 4-7 right now. With losses to teams made up entirely of players nd wouldn't even offer.
Also why is everyone so set on lsu being more talented than nd? Do you guys mean blacker? Cause yea that makes sense. But I'm pretty sure nd has more guys in the NFL than lsu. And pretty much the same level of talent every recruiting class.
From an outsiders perspective, I'd wonder if Kelly has lost this team. They simply don't or can't play hard for him. I think he's a great coach that obviously can win but it just seems like he's done all that he can.
he's not a great coach. his record against ranked opponents is awful and he has never put together a complete team. at least one of the offense, defense, and special teams always sucks.
If the players feel they have nothing to play for, that's a motivation issue from the head coach. 100% his fault and nobody else's. I have no desire to have an LSU situation where we fire him halfway thru next season and set our program back another year. What LSU did with Miles was a mistake. This is the exact same situation.
Or you have a situation like Florida in 2004 where they have already started the process with Meyer long before we enter the discussion and they land him because of it. Publicly and privately there hasn't been the rumors of firing Kelly like there was Les. It's possible that next year the team recovers and has a decent start to the season and all of this is erased. Even probable if you follow Kelly's typical underwhelming season - start well and fade in the second half. I am fine with running Kelly now if there is a legit shot at Herman or some other good candidate emerges. They have to have a plan for improving the program though, not just make a move to punish Kelly. I am at least confident that Jack has a plan in place for either scenario though.
I don't think ND is going to fire Kelly this year but I think he deserves to be fired. I think Strong as a DC would be a home run hire but I don't think it will happen.
The number goes down I believe by the amount of his next salary, so if we pay him 1.5M then he would get 1.5M less from UT. The only way he is not coaching next season is if he wants to take a break for a year and relax.
In this case, you're betting on an elite coach becoming available next year and landing that person. Both are somewhat long shots. Florida hit a homerun there, but there was quite a bit of luck involved. It could've been disastrous if they didn't land Meyer.
At least Kelly isn't making comments like this...vols butch jones. (So happy I have a vols friend irl...it distracts me from ND) Jones on this senior class: "They’ve won the biggest championship – that’s the championship of life”
I'm definitely not letting it go. I said after 4-5 games this year that I didn't care about this year. It was a throwaway. He could have lost every single game and I'd still be saying the same thing. The kids have nothing to play for. You're kidding yourself if Kelly is going to do a speech about how they can make it to the Idaho Potato Bowl if they just try a little harder.
First semi big game of the season tonight at 7. Looking forward to seeing us against another power 5 team
I never thought I'd say this but I think I actually like Matt Farrell This team is going to get raped on the glass but we will be fun as hell to watch on offense
Kelly screwed up in the worst way with the BVG hire. He couldn't pull his own head from out of his ass for about 3 years. His Ego got out of control when Martin and Diaco left and I think he surrounded himself with ppl who wouldnt question his decisions This team should be a 10+ win team but momentum got away from them. Penn State isnt a top 10 team but they got momentum behind them due to some bounces. Its cfb it happens. Brian Kelly created this momentum with the BVG bullshit- the fact that the AD had to step in is really damning Is Kelly a good coach- yes Is he completely lost in his own negative momentum right now- yes Does he deserve to be fired? Yes Do I think he will be? No
