today feels like one of those days where Clay does a periscope where he talks to himself about why Art Briles should not have been fired
Clay Travis @ClayTravis Big legal battle likely coming with Briles & Baylor over his for cause firing. He's still owed tens of millions if he was fired w/out cause. did you ever read the release? theyre suspending with intent to fire him with cause Clay Travis @ClayTravis Ken Starr must know where some bodies are buried to still be employed. And at the law school no less. breh doesnt even know how tenure works
Just can't understand why someone would sit and watch an entire "show" of that dumbass giving his awful takes on everything
Same reason why people watch/listen to finebaum, rush limbaugh, fox news and msnbc. Some want to hear their terrible opinions echoed and some love to watch shit to complain about.
He tweeted today that Deitsch got turned down when he applied for a job at SB Nation. Deitsch did not like it. Closest I've ever come to not hating Travis.
he's like the self-appointed stenographer for sports media. (I think he was originally hired by SI as a non-content producing editor). Sanctimonious. Agenda-driven. All-knowing. And his perch he shouts from is built solely on his academic career. I think his only sports media experience is in covering the WNBA and a couple of obscure events. It would be like Clay Travis critiquing litigators. The authority he speaks with doesnt translate with his qualifications. He doesnt generate content. He just seeks to drive clicks to his column on espn and the sports media, which isnt really original content, while not critiquing his own company or the outlets he has a bias for. (His biases are very apparent; whether I agree with them or not). It would be one thing if he approached his self-assigned media critic role as an ombudsman of sort (which is difficult given he works for a sports media outlet), but instead he uses his job as a way to interject his own opinions, biases, agenda. Its the exact opposite approach of "I report, you decide"...which I guess points to his lack of journalism. His role should be as a neutral observer, reporter = which other New York outlets already employ people doing w/r/t sports media.
I would also add that he's perfect for the social media world because almost all his opinions are just popular takes to get the hipster crowd to like him. Almost all his opinions on individuals in sports media mock the guys no one is allowed to like (SAS, Bayless, Berman, Cowherd, Whitlock and others), and promote the people who either kiss the ring or everyone else likes (like his Grantland bullshit in the Simmons aftermath, which took pandering to the popular crowd to ridiculous levels). I don't read his stuff often, but I can't think of a take of his in recent years where I thought he legitimately took a stance that would be unpopular among the crowd he desires to please.
Before I stopped torturing myself by banishing sports radio from my life, I used to cringe when he would try to talk about how close he is with Vegas insider Mark Fuhrman(sp?)
yea he goes for low hanging fruit as his wheelhouse. Then he will proffer some alternative suggest that is really unimaginative, and serves to highlight his lack of qualifications for his position. I mean, I usually agree with most his opinions. I just find the guy to be a douche. He's not a Rich Sandomir or James Miller. He's an editor, adjunct professor, and quasi reporter. Give me the sports media news. Report, let me decide. Don't filter it through your own opinions before disseminating it to me.
These are all legitimate points but he calls out Clay Travis all the time so in this case the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Eh, I like Deitch. I'm a reformed journo, though, so my POV is a little different. His podcast with Paul Heyman is must-listen.
Deitch's shit is just terribly predictable at this point. He has an obsession with championing women/minorities in sports journalism that is both patronizing and paternalistic. Things that would make for an interesting column or podcast every once in a while becomes a regular thing.
I'm not here to defend Deitsch. I view him as an essential Twitter follow and skim his column every week, but I most criticisms offered here are fair. But it is an interesting quandary set up in some corners of the Internet where we hate hot takers who go against the grain and we hate cool takers who go with the flow. I agree with this. He makes men earn a positive opinion, while he allows every woman in sports media to start with a positive opinion. And some of the women he's shoehorned into his roundtables have been cringe worthy.
Regardless of how good or bad Deitch is I wont read his column because of how terrible SI's website is in any format.
Every time I open an SI link, I can get through about 2-3 paragraphs (after it loads for 2 minutes). At that point, I try scrolling down while my computer freezes, and 30 seconds later it takes me to the bottom of the page when it finally unfreezes because I tried scrolling down too many times.
This ^^^ ESPN new site design isn't much better but SI has absolutely the worst website design on the internet. It's more unusable than reddit.
Maybe Deitchs' next column should be that Jay Jaffe, Johna Keri, and Cliff Corchoran are wasted writing for a website no one wants to go to
I'd take Clay Travis over a guy like Deitch any day of the week. Travis is a goober but at least he's not afraid to have an opinion and I feel like he usually comes from a place of sincerity. Deitch is the complete antithesis of that, a champion of group-think, a total drone. Fuck that guy.
I don't know who Deitch is but lmbo at Clay Travis coming from a place of sincerity. He's a tool who panders to bros.
yea Clay Travis is not sincere. He was a quasi academic nerd at GW that saw a career opening thru his love of sports to pander to the lowest common denominator of society. He literally tries to go against the grain on every issue. Shock value. His target audience are SEC fans in alabama and tennessee. Its why he is now a Trump supporter. He knows he is baiting idiots that objectify women, race bait, and think the WWE is real.
Clay Travis @ClayTravis This won't surprise anybody, but I actually think I could get elected governor of Tennessee if I ran in 2018.
clay is guaranteeing the over of 210 to hit tonight any gamblers out there may want to take the under
Can't believe we've had a few people in this thread say they don't mind, or even like, clay. Guy is the worst personality in sports media. Luckily I have no connection with Fox Sports and don't follow him on twitter, so I rarely ever hear about him unless one of the barstool guys are getting at him.
my only regret is not emptying out my savings and betting it all on the under clay is why the terrorists hate us
All I know of him is from this thread and the occasional times he gets retweeted by other accts I follow. I didnt even know he had his own show. Just thought he was a edgy journalist type that I typically hate
You guys should download/sign up for Pocket. Save links to Pocket. Read them on there. Much better format. I never read anything on the actual websites unless (a) they block Pocket or (b) the articles have footnotes.
