We don't have that, no. At least I don't. DOGPOG happens once per 4.79 games. It was sometimes called before 2005, but only on egregious cases. No data on how many times the puck went out of play before that
Of course a ref gets cut and we get an immediate rule change. It only took half a dozen long term concussions to ban head shots though.
Well of course they say that when he’s part of the lawsuit. we know CTE is real and a problem. However players are aware of that and it should be play at your own risk.
If all the studies show how bad CTE is and players still choose to fight today, that is their own choice. You know the risks
I disagree with you, but putting that aside - I'm not even sure what that has to do with Chris Simon. he didn't know what fighting was going to do to the rest of his shortened life.
My Point was to the original tweet that Allan Walsh said how mad he is there is 101 Fighting Majors this year.
The NHL should put an end to fighting. The sport would be entirely fine without it Current hockey players should take it upon themselves to stop fighting regardless of what the league chooses to do Past players - and their families - suffering from CTE deserve considerable support from the league. What that looks like is up to debate to some degree, but it should be substantial
I’m indifferent on fighting. It’s becoming less frequent and nowhere near what it was 20-30 years ago. I like a good fight in a rivalry/playoff feel game but fights after a clean hit or a blowout do nothing for me. If they were to go away it wouldn’t impact how much I enjoy the game. And the narrative that fighting will lead to more cheap shots is a myth. Plenty of examples of cheap shots on guys that are on teams with capable tough guys.
between football and hockey, I feel like we're about to see a lot of the guys we enjoyed watching growing up meet tragic ends and it's going to be in the back of my mind any time I see two guys drop the gloves or take a huge hit.
I get your point and it gets magnified because they were an athlete. But is the suicide rate in athletes higher than the suicide rate for regular people
They can’t publicly acknowledge it from a legal standpoint at this point, so I don’t blame Daly for that single answer in a vacuum. As a league they need to decide to acknowledge it though. And hopefully very soon.
So they are either 1. Never going to admit the science is there 2. Admit the science is there after this lawsuit ?
As fighting is already banned, what increase in punishment do we think will work? Game misconduct and 1 game suspension for first offense? 5 games for second? 10 for third? 20 for fourth? Rest of the season including playoffs for fifth?
no fighting is not banned. You do not face punishment outside of the rules of the game. You always make this disingenuous comment. That’s like saying playing the puck with a high stick is banned as there is a rule against it. Punish fighting like they do in basketball. Cleaned that sport up pretty quickly
I think we can all agree St Louis or Minnesota beating out Vegas for the last WC would be objectively hilarious right?
No it would be a shame that one of the top few teams in the league has so many moving parts on their roster because of injuries
I have no problem maximizing the rules. Them not making the playoffs would still be hilarious though.
They definitely had Kelly McCrimmon come in and slice Stone's spleen, what a sacrifice by the captain
I was also told by many in here that Wilson was evidence of lengthy suspensions being effective deterrents for future dirty play despite this now being his second long suspension after previously receiving long suspensions. #abolishsuspensions
There’s a couple problems here. The number of incidents that absolutely deserved suspensions but the DOPS are cowards and did nothing. And the length of the suspensions, they’ve all been too short for the incidents, including his 14 game suspension. https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/capitals-tom-wilson-suspension-timeline-nhl# He’s had half a dozen incidents that warranted 10+ games and has been suspended for that length just once. That’s the problem.
