Hopefully the guy figures out how to read a defense and get the ball out on time, sitting a couple years behind Russ could help him a ton. Let the Caleb Williams era begin.
Poles misplayed that one pretty bad. Made it clear at the combine they weren’t keeping him trashing the return, then didn’t move him until FA which made the return even worse.
What could he do? You can’t hide when there’s trade talks. He was somewhat unfortunate. The window to get a good pick here only worked here if there were at least two QB hungry teams that also didn’t have some baggage (ie the Vikings and Raiders were never realistic trade options). I think if the Patriots hadn’t canned Bellichick then Fields could have been an option there but their new era makes Brissett a better for now option. Everyone else has a decent draft pick with the exception of the Broncos where I don’t think Fields works. I think the Steelers were always in here but they were happy enough to get a cheap Russ over bidding against themselves for Fields. Now he lands into their laps anyway.
Disappointed but I get it. Can't believe Lance got a 4th from Dallas but these teams are enamored by the unknown
He could of sent him to Atlanta as soon as the season ended for a 2nd and change but didn’t. He could of been quiet at the combine and only talk to other teams about trading out of 1 but didn’t. He could of sent him before FA filled all the QB holes except the 2 teams we’d never trade with but didn’t. He could of held onto him till another starter went down and then ransomed but didn’t. He was too cute and it cost the team.
And I’m still team Poles, the good outweighs the bad and he’s not signing shitty contracts like Pace. Getsy, Claypool, Patrick, Tonyan, Fields, trading picks for back up OL who don’t play, he’s had his fair share of Fuck ups.
Lots of opinions on what could’ve been done with zero idea of any of what actually was done. Fields sucks, his data and play suggested as much. Our desire to finally have a QB clouded our judgment and outlook on what could be. It’s clear the league isn’t a believer. Good luck to Justin. Let’s hope he develops and let’s get it right at 1.1
Exactly. It’s clear the rest of the league doesn’t value him. Crystal clear. A 2 or 3 was never a reality.
Did you read her article? “The Bears had an additional offer with stronger draft capital from a team with an established starter, per a source, but chose to send Fields to Pittsburgh with the hope of putting the 25-year-old in a position to continue his development -- first as a backup to Wilson and eventually as a starter.”
No way he was offered a 2nd at this point. My guess the better offer was something like 2024 6th, 2025 4th. But according to all the reporting he easily could of got a 2nd two months ago.
Nobody was giving us a 2 at any point. What we floated as possible in the media to drive up the market isn’t the same as reality. His value is what it is. And it’s a 6th
THATS the problem. He didn’t commit to trading him originally. He still flirted with another #1 trade down epic haul. That’s where he lost.
Again, feel free to be as mad as you want but a GM hyping up a signing has literally nothing to do with passing up a deal for a 2.
So every single NFL insider, the ones who’s careers rely on them being accurate, made that up just to troll Chi fans because that matters more than their careers. Poles fucked up. He’s done it before and he’ll do it again. It’s ok to admit it.
It's also ok to admit you're just mad at some speculation about what was actually available. Every NFL insider didn't say it and they're wrong more than they're right. Poles overplayed his hand but there's zero chance he passed up a 2.
Honestly, every single one. It’s OK to admit Poles fucked this up. “According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, "several sources" have suggested that a package of second- and fourth-round draft picks would be a realistic asking price for Fields. That would give Chicago seven selections in the first four rounds, including the No. 1 and No. 9 overall picks.”
Okay, so it’s speculation and not a concrete offer. That’s fine. I also assumed Fields would garner something equivalent to what the Darnold did. And definitely more than what Pickett and Mac Jones did. And Im not caping for Poles here. I don’t like any of the moves they’ve made this offseason. I think everyone but me loved the Allen trade.
It’s ok for you Meatballs to admit that Poles dropped the ball here. If Caleb is Mahomes 2.0 it doesn’t matter at all. But re-writing history turning Justin into the worst QB ever isn’t it. He is what he is, the 20-25th best QB on the planet. That’s a worthy asset.
If there was ever a 2nd rounder on the table indicating that's what his potential value was around the league, they would have kept him on the bench and waited for an injury instead of trading him for a 6th rounder.
2nd/3rd plus additional has been there for forever. Poles dropped the ball. https://thedenforum.com/t/justin-fields-trade-value-estimated-by-7-nfl-gms/29660
Poles fucked up. Not the first time “The consensus in an informal poll of league evaluators is that Fields would be worth a second- or third-round pick in a pre-draft trade," they reported. "When compared to former top-10 picks recently traded, that's better than Trey Lance, whom Dallas acquired from San Francisco for a fourth-round pick, but slightly worse than Sam Darnold, who, along with a sixth-round pick, went from the Jets to Carolina in exchange for second- and fourth-rounders."
If Poles didn’t Fuck it up, we could stay at 9 and draft Nabers/Odunze. He has to trade down now, pick up and edge in the teens and then a DT/WR/C in the 2nd.
what a day for dirtball, sorry for real the Husks lost. B1G refs can lick my butthole after not wiping.
If he dealt him for a 2nd earlier it wouldn’t matter. That’s the issue. Is he has to trade out of 9 if he wants to full Edge/DT/WR/C.
Huh? Where is the evidence he could have sent him for a 2 as soon as the season ended? That period when trades weren’t allowed until last week? Your imaginary scenario suggests doing it before they had a new head coach too!
This means absolutely nothing. This is patter and came before coaching changes & teams evaluated tape. Raheen Morris is the coach of the Falcons (several weeks after the season ended). I know you might have seen one of those “Justin Fields going home is the perfect scenario” at the end of the season but the Falcons changed their coach. He wants more of a game manager. So where was the market for him? The Raiders took Gettsy so he wasn’t going there. Patriots and Steelers was it as a potential starter and one went the other way straight away and the other had Russ drop into their laps. We could have extracted more value by keeping him around until training camp potentially but that’s just going to be a mess when you are making a number 1 pick.
