I just turned the Yankees game on and apparently I missed what will almost definitely be the best part.
Really kind of sucks for the Yankees that Judge had that absurd season when he did. Never going to be worth that contract on the field. Seems to be a good captain and representative of the game though.
He probably earned his $40m last year even missing 50 games tbh. iirc he was still top 20 in WAR at like 105 games. Obviously he's not going to have another 11 win season, but he doesn't have to to be worth that contract. He was a top 10~ WAR guy the year before the monster season. He was already going to get a huge deal, that season probably got him $10m a season more though. He's been an elite hitter for a while now, only issue has been health. 2h of the contract will suck but that's almost always the case. Fuck it, not my money.
He was throwing 100mph sinker, 98 4 seams, 92 chageup... and then gave Gelyber 3 straight sliders at 88 and he whiffed at all 3 lol. That's an MLB The Show arsenal.
The biggest hindsight pitching malpractice this year is Jordan Hicks previously being in the pen for a team with no starting pitching
I disagree from a health standpoint. Don’t think any pitcher can handle velo like that with a starter’s load over a long period.
ya I believe he has thrown 8 of the fastest pitches in baseball this year. that doesn't seem sustainable or smart using him as a starter
Most young TORP pitchers will throw 100ish from now on. Do you leave them all in pen when they’re drafted?
Not necessarily, but if teams commit to an opener approach it’s probably going to be a more optimal approach moving forward if you have a number of fireballers and want to avoid TJs.
Speaking of struggling hitters, does Acuna realize he's allowed to hit the ball over the fence for HR's?
I know you’re messing around, but in his particular case, I do think he’s going to have to do some thinking on how he’ll pitch moving forward. This is his second major ligament issue and he doesn’t have the body type to keep that velo forever anyways; once he gets older and he can’t keep those tree-trunk legs, his velo is going to tick down regardless.
adjusting your velo and lowering your usage 100+ innings are two very different discussions. nobody is saying Miller would throw every pitch 100 MPH as a starter.
