So just learned the author of that tweet was auggie. So it's actually not the ucfaa video people on that handle. Auggie....go fucking figure
Well if you go by all time stats then yeah we're better. I was going by 2005-2012 (recent statistics)
6-2 USM. We may own UCF but they've outperformed since they joined CUSA. Huge USM fan but you cannot deny that UCF and Tulsa have been the best since joining in 05
I would have cared about this basketball season if there was a point to it. I would think with the motivation of playing for something they could be in the running for ncaa spot.
Holy fuck all I thought of was Memphis two years ago when that guy spotted up for the game winning 3 in the corner
can someone enlighten me on the magnitude of this win, because while a good conference win...this doesn't mean jack. Eric DeSalvo @EricDeSalvo I hope people understand the magnitude of that @UCF_MBasketball win over USM, knocking them from the unbeaten in league play! #Finish Retweeted by UCF Men's Basketball
I mean we're not Kansas or Duke, but I'd say we are a legitimate top 50-60 team. Probably UCF's best win aside from Belmont
but that's the thing, and i don't mean offense to southern miss, like i said you're a good team... but when you're playing for absolutely nothing this season only a win over kansas, duke, or more realistically since they were on the schedule, florida, is a big "magnitude" game. beating southern miss is nice but it's not huge for our program in the least like this guy seems to suggest. i'm just irritated with all the hyperbole by our delusional fans and/or administration's tweets.
Good win. Just got home. Garage Fucking sucks. Crowd was into the game which was a nice change. Only about 50% full though. Thought USM was going to pull it out with Clanton and Zeke both under 10 points with 3 mins left. Tristan was a grown assman tonight. Physical game too.
Really only games that were of any real importance would be UF and UM considering they are both top 10 teams. Maybe USF due to rivalry but the rest mean nothing. This win means nothing.
I don't agree, while there were 6 "it" games for me this year, considering we are in the hunt for the regualr season crown knocking off USM and getting 1 game behind them in the standings means something until we blow another ame we are not supposed to, at that point support will totally evaporate.
I think the most you can ask for this year is to compete and get the young guys (especially the 3 key freshmen) tons of playing time and experience. I'm sure Donnie is making them focus solely on that regular season crown since it is the highest achievement we can have this year. If that alone can keep them hungry and motivated then these cusa games become kind of important. It would be nice to have some important games on the road for these guys to get experience.
While I do agree that the tweet about the magnitude of the game is a little overboard, I definitely agree this was a big win. I get that a lot of people don't care about this year because we can't play for anything post season wise, but I almost look at it like the only thing we have to play for is the regular season, so each loss is bigger than it otherwise would be because we could always fall back on making a run in the conference tourney. With the goals of big wins in OCC gone, the only thing left to play for is a regular season conference title. While we likely won't get it, if we had lost last night the chances of it happening would be gone (3 back of an undefeated S. Miss team had we lost). At least now there is still something left to play for since we are only a game back now. With a lot of young guys on this team and losing Clanton next year, I'm looking at this year to give me some hope for the future. If we can't finish in the top 3 of CUSA with this group, we are going to get slaughtered next year in the Big East.
Love this quote from O'Leary. He's likely lying to make this kid sound better, and I know this kind of stuff does happen, but he makes this HS coach sound like a horrible person to screw with this kids future to get him to go to one of two schools where he has connections. On ATH Stanback still being available on the board late... "No, you have to understand that Tom Watson, his coach, used to play for me at Syracuse and he played with Coach [Doug] Marrone, so they were teammates. I think he was hiding him out a little bit because everyone was looking after the kid.
This said I'm totally shocked at the lack of student support at the games. proprs to those that come, but damn that place should have 3k students minumum at each game. These games should be events and parties for these kids, a way to blow off steam. I'm just not sure that probation is the only reason turnout is down and it isn't the product we are as good as we were the last few years.
