Bob Valvano's awesome rant calls out ESPN colleagues and media-at-large Written by Matt Yoder on Tuesday, 08 January 2013 16:02.
ESPN of course asked "Is there any chance Alabama could beat an NFL squad?" favorite response: "Go home ESPN. You're Drunk"
I hate how full of themselves they are. Yesterday when they were coming back from a commercial and said something like "sportscenter, where we have better coverage than anyone else." just stfu already.
Pretty standard stuff from a company promoting themselves is it not? I mean they are the Worldwide Leader...
Yesterday they had two females anchoring Sportscenter. I haven't watched in a long time, but is this now commonplace for Sportscenter?
Yeah it's like they know they can continually throw trash out and still be the worldwide leader. I wish there was a network that could take over. However I don't know if the common American sports fan is smart enough to be open-minded enough to leave espn.
You hit the nail on the head with your latter point. The average sports fan doesn't see the problems with espn. Hopefully it will change when all the real sports fans mock the other who watch espn.
ive started watching NBA TV exclusively for my nba fix, they cover the league in more substantial terms than "ARE KOBE AND DWIGHT GOING TO HAVE A WAR ON TWITTER??"
No business stays at the level they're at, nobody. It will death by a thousand cuts for them. Someone linked an article here or it was elsewhere that I read that it won't be Fox Sports, CBS Sports or NBC Sports, it will be a combination of them all that will cut into ESPN's share.
I watched first take yesterday (my mistake) and Stephen A Smith actually said Joe Webb gave the Vikings a better chance to win than Ponder. The Packers were just ready for Adrian Peterson this time he said and Joe Webb wasn't prepared for a surprise start. Yep, the same Vikings that won the week before against the Packers with Ponder.
the thing about this is though, even when someone from espn says something quasi-rational, its coming from some butt hurt homer making a rant.
NBA TV and the NFL Network cover each of their sports much better than ESPN does. I assume MLB Network does as well, but I don't really watch much.

Absolutely. MLB Network is regarded by many as the best it gets for TV sports journalism. The Golf Channel has been doing very, very well over the last couple years as well.
I only watch it when streaming games, but ESPN America (what the Brits get) seems pretty badass. They get all sorts of games. I mean, check out this lineup from last night through today http://www.espnamerica.com/oo/f1/tv-schedule/
Fox Sports One will be in more position to at least make a dent into ESPN than NBC. Fox has a decent amount of inventory with MLB, Big XII, Pac 12, NASCAR, UFC, etc. and I'm sure will show NFL programming. They're also the rumored leader to get the rights to the new Catholic hoops league. However, Fox isn't out of the woods in doing stupid shit on some of their broadcasts, so I hope they don't go down the ESPN road to try and get ratings. I wished Turner would've done a 24 hour sports channel (not named CNNSI) though.
Not really tbh. We don't get any games that ESPN/CBS don't show in the States. Cotton Bowl for example wasn't on because it was non BCS and on Fox. They had Monday Night Football but don't anymore. They've lost half of their NBA coverage to Sky Sports and even then last year they didn't show all of the Playoffs (instead showing a replay of the night before I shit you not, they had used up all of their contracted games..). They lost NHL as well. They have decent Baseball coverage in fairness. ESPN UK is on the verge of collapse anyway, ESPN America will survive as a niche European operation like it did before.
wait wut Dan Rubenstein @DanRubenstein Carlos Mencia was just talking Notre Dame's 2013 recruiting class on ESPN2 if you're wondering why new media exists.
He was on sports nation apparently. I guess he's an ND fan Feel more ashamed about Carlos Mencia calling himself an ND fan than our performance last night tbqh
Pretty sure he ended up getting a lot more from ESPN, so that's why he stayed. Doing a segment on Gameday every week was a caveat of his new contract because it's something he wanted IIRC. This could all be made up though. On the other hand, one thing that doesn't suck about ESPN is Rece Davis. He puts up with jackass Lou Holth and Mark May every Saturday. His alma mater has dominated football the last few years and I just learned that he was a Bama alumni two years ago. Could you imagine Lou or Golic if ND won? Mark May if Pitt won?
Had no idea he's a bama grad. That's awesome. Pretty impressive he can remain so un-biased in todays sports media.
I knew Davis was a Bama grad a couple years ago. He's one of the few good things ESPN has. I feel bad he's in hell with Holtz and May. He needs to be more of a dick in the final verdict though.
Rece is really good as a studio host. not a fan of him on the Thursday night games, but maybe he just isn't a good play-by-play guy or/and he has to deal with Palmer and Pollock touching each other's dicks all night.
you would have to be privileged to some very specific information about one of there penis' to know that...
and, like his exponentially more famous dead relative, he proceeded to point out only 3 things matter in life: god, family, and rutgers football
They were awful fucking roommates. David Greene was always leaving bread crumbs from his goddamn pb&js all over the counters and Pollack never got off the Xbox
I dont own a TV so I havent watched espn in awhile. But I was drinking at a bar by myself tonight and espn was on. On their top 10 plays of the day they now include tweets that famous ppl tweeted about the play. I thought that was stupid.
