he did a pretty damn good job with what he had and the injuries he had to deal with, and landed Otha... so I was very glad to see him come back. He handled corners at Ohio St and coached Malcolm Jenkins and several other Thorpe finalists iirc, so this is another great move/hire.
I think this is a good hire as well. Man landing Shannon, Taver, this staff is turning out fantastic. We are going to see some solid improvements on the defense side of the ball. Is it bad I am hoping Bama loses Saban to the NFL? I am not worried about Mile at LSU much any more, that is definitely a winnable game, and Auburn is rebuilding along with Ole Miss. A&M will give us problems for a while, but we can handle that.
Cobbs, damn, he was another one Decker fucked up by adding 30 lbs and slowing him down.... What could have been with a couple of those classes and some decent coaching.

aTm is losing a lot of their OL. Saban isn't going to the NFL, at least not this year (per Schefter). LSU and Auburn will be winnable games for the foreseeable future. Ole Miss is going to get better under Freeze, and they could close out their recruiting class very strongly, including Nkemdiche.
Yeah, he use to buy from the same guy I would buy from every once in a while. I would see him there almost everytime I went by. 10 years ago I would make you look just silly on the court, smoking and drinking has killed those skills from those times

Yea, i have a couple of these stories, most are blocked from my memory completely, but sorry to say some I haven't completely erased.
Seriously, though, has Arkansas ever had a staff with this much talent on it? Nutt couldn't hire a staff this good if he had an unlimited amount of money, and these guys never would have worked for a tyrant like Petrino. Trust me, i was sad to lose Petrino, but damn Bielema has nailed these hires. No chance in hell this staff stays together long. These guys are going to get promoted quickly if they produce like I think they will. Recruiting is already improving on a large scale as well.
Broyles is a legend for the number of AAA quality assistants he had, but he had them spread out over decades. Danny Ford had a good staff when he was here. I'd say ON PAPER this is the best staff of coaches under one roof in Arkansas history. We'll see how it all gels, but just from the names and their reputations and credentials, it's got to be the best assembled.
Broyles was the first coach I thought of when I thought back to those who put together some great staffs at Arkansas. Broyles was running a farm league for eventual head coaches. All together in one, this might come close or beat some of his teams. If i remember right I think Ford had a pretty good team put together at one point. But damn. Its not a ton of old white guys either /no racist.

Frank set the standard for picking and grooming assistant coaches. There is a reason why the annual best assistant head coach award is called the Broyles Award and is awarded in LR. If CBB can continuously keep assistant coaches coming in like this then he will probably take us pretty far in the long run.

Yeah I mentioned this in the SEC thread. He's got some good contacts but is an average recruiter. Not really worried about him stealing what little elite talent we have in Arkansas anyways.
That was my thing. He knew all the coaches, but name me a big time player he landed. He would keep us in the mix on a few (which any decent sales guy/recruiter can do) but he never really closed anyone we needed. I mean to give Horton credit for guys like Joe Adams is ridiculous. Petrino closed him. Horton had a ton of good buddies in the Arkansas coaching staff, which is VERY similar to Gus, but I think this coaching staff is going to do a lot more work in building relationships and closing guys. If Horton was so good, why was Tenpenny locked up by Bama for so long?
