its not really fair to use ronald reagan as an example because you know that most of the kids aren't going to grow up to be POTUS. Its far more likely that they turn to violence and crime, and then have lots of kids of their own they can't afford.
we already tried the eugenics thing the nazis liked it so much, it was one of the key inspirations for their own movement so yeah, let's try that again
Yeah this indirectly leads me to my disdain for those that fellate veterans and their contributions every chance they get. Sure, lots of officers are well educated and serving itself helps tons of people get educations they can't afford, but worshipping people who were so far down our socioeconomic ladder that they had to volunteer to fucking die for those that are more fortunate than them (again, broad generalization) .. I don't know it just gives me a weird caste system type vibe. I also hate that everybody that joins is effectively (but necessarily) brainwashed in so many ways to make them a more effective soldier. Anyways I probably sound like a huge pussy so ill stop now. Thanks to all the veterans that do what they do and don't suck
FWIW I believe welfare provides an important safety net for people that fall on hard times or are legitimately unable to help themselves better their circumstances. I would never deprive someone of that safety net if they're actually trying to pull themselves up or move forward.... My theory (albeit completely implausible) would only extend to the worst of the worst - those who flagrantly take advantage of "the system" and do so from many different angles. To illustrate the sort of person I'm talking about I'll provide the following: I work in the criminal justice system. Nearly every day I see defendants in court who have multiple prior convictions and multiple children with multiple women... they don't pay a dime for any of it. They don't pay a dime toward their court-appointed counsel... they don't pay a dime toward the immense cost of incarcerating them... they don't pay a dime in restitution to the victims they rob and steal from... they don't pay a dime in taxes because they're a deadbeat who hasn't had a job in god knows how long... they don't pay a dime toward the children they've fathered... they don't pay a dime toward the healthcare they all receive... they don't pay a dime toward all the 911 services they tie up for all their arrests (be it their newest felony or the monthly domestic violence call) &/or fire dept. calls. ALL of this expense gets passed on to you, me, and anyone else who gets up in the morning, punches a time clock and gets to work. Then, if that weren't enough, after these shitbags pass their staggering bill onto you and I they usually feel like they're the victim, we're the bad guy, and that society still owes them something. Talk to any cop or any firefighter and they'll tell you this: 90% of their calls/time is spent dealing with the same 10% of society. That 10% is made up of people from every conceivable racial/economic/age classification. That 10% costs the rest of us an untold amount of money. /rant
These are some of the people who would qualify for this: http://the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/modern-day-gladiators.114270/
-I cannot make sense of alimony. The partnership is over. If you own a business with someone and they made more money, if the business is dissolved, your partner doesn't owe you anything. Why is it there in marriage? Child support, on the other hand, I have no problem with. -85% of Wes Anderson movies are annoying. -The United States should reconsider isolationist foreign policy. -Religion ruins lives. "Work and worship" causes people to withhold doing what they may really want or experiencing the world. -The war on science from the religious right is a national embarrassment. -On the same cuff, religious institutions should not be tax exempt as they are the biggest influence in politics today. -Kids are gay. -I can't stand jazz. Spare me your hipster BS. -The Doors bore me to tears. -MLB regular season is very watchable (this was an unpopular opinion to me like 3 years ago :feelsoldman:). -Faith is not a virtue. In anything else outside of religion if you ignored all evidence, reason, and common sense and went with what you believed to be true, you'd be called a fucking idiot. And rightfully so. "This map shows that Seattle is in Washington and everyone says it's in the Pacific Northwest, but I have faith that it is actually in North Dakota." -I like dogs more, but cats are still cool with me. Basically if it is furry and I can pet it, you bet your ass I'm gonna pet it. -jw3 likes vagina. In regards to military - I work on a military contract and I've found that people in the military are very hit or miss. The people in the military who are "good" are very good. They're some of the most impressive people I've ever met. What I've found out is that these people are usually the ROTC, academy grads, or people that didn't join directly after high school. The people who are bad though, are just complete shit. They're lazy, unorganized, and can't think for themselves. If I don't give them a 30-step detailed report on exactly what I need, I can almost guarantee that it won't get done, or that I'll receive a dozen emails asking for help every step of the way.
Jazz can be very shitty if you don't know where to look. Especially smooth jazz. I wish I could shoot all smooth jazz musicians into the goddamn sun. Stan Kenton's Malaga is a really good song if you ever feel like giving it another shot. After all, it is the only original genre of anything america's ever created. - I agree with Schwarzkopf that it (probably, as I've never been in that position, but he has) [would] feel awful to give orders that necessarily leads to the death of thousands of people, whether your own or the enemy's.
Admittedly I've never sought out much jazz, and I'm sure there's plenty out there I'd like. I just haven't heard it yet.
Is this true? I've always been under the impression that many genres of music were all American in origin. Blues, Rock&Roll, Hip Hop, Gospel, etc.
I was the youngest male child with three older sisters. My exposure gave me scary insight to the female mind. I fear for my fellow man. I would say 2 outta 3 women are real trouble.
i think the beatles are WAY overrated. i don't think they are terrible, i like revolver and rubber soul, but i just don't see what the big deal is.
I like some Beatles, but am pretty much in the same boat. Saw this Bill Burr clip on Yoko and John the other day and thought it was pretty funny
Marriage is a contract. It's breached by whoever cheats or otherwise fails to live up to the marriage. The principle of contract damages is to put the party not in breach into the same position he'd have been had the contract been carried out.
Haha, I immediately looked that up after he brought it up in his podcast. I understand that. Maybe I just don't agree with alimony I guess.
It's overused now but it made sense when it was devised. Women often forego education and career, relying on their spouse to support them. Usually remarriage or getting a job ends the alimony. The problem is judges using it to punish and women refusing to work when they could support themselves
No it isn't. There are thousands and thousands of cases where the wife is a miserable cunt and the one who broke the contract and gets alimony and tons of other shit simply because she is the woman
Well the way courts apply the doctrine is another matter. Whether the judge makes the right call on the facts or not, the principle supporting the award is contract damages.
Right, but that is not why alimony is paid in the vast majority of cases. The principle doesn't matter if it is always executed differently
Not sure if other states do it as well, but Texas has alimony right. It's not actually alimony, they're called maintenance payments and you can only get them for three years. Basically you have three years to become self sufficient whether through further education or what.
