He was awfully young at the time. Another look at me point. I knew two killers a long time ago, one Randy Woodfield was more of an acquaintance, the other Steve Wack was a close friend. Randy is better known as the I-5 serial killer, Steve was also a football player that attended and was on scholarship for a year at one of soulfly's favorite schools, Notre Dame. While we knew Randy was a thug around women, no one comprehended how bad until he was put in jail for attacking and forcing oral sex from women. Steve was a total and complete shock, highly intelligent, babe magnet and very popular amongst everyone. One night he is out with the group at a bar, next morning he is in jail for killing two women. Both were a shock to my comprehension, specially with Steve, who to this day only remembers coming to in his old apartment, seeing blood and the bodies of the girls that had moved in, and that he didn't know, and then calling the cops. Point being you don't know.
That's the default reflex - anybody who does this has to be beyond fucked up. There has to be a syndrome or disorder or something to explain it post abomination. It can't just be some buttfuck with delusions of grandeur. And even that gets pegged a narcissistic disorder or bipolor disorder or antisocial disorder. We can't handle the idea that some idiot talked himself into killing a bunch of kids/teens/moviegoers along with killing himself purely because he wanted attention on his way out. At the same time, our society does as terrible a job as recognizing mental disorders, so maybe there is some sort of key other than 1 of every 40,000,000 people go way off the rails from time to time.
Does anyone else think more is yet to come? Not related to this incident. But more massacres before the new year.
with 12/21/2012 approaching there's bound to be a few random instances, hopefully just suicides and nothing like this though
I'm saying I don't think this kid walked around eating his own shit. I bet if you asked 100 people that knew the kid if he could kill, 100 would say no. That's what I mean.
I was confused at first too. School is in Cincinnati and the shooting was in a parking across the street from the school.
I worked with GE Financial Services as a client for two different companies. Trying to remember if I ever worked with the dad but not ringing a bell. Glad the guy turned out to be alive but can't imagine how he moves on from here.
I'm agreeing with you. Just engaging in a discussion of what I think causes people to ascribe to some sort of medical explanation for a really rare occurrence. In my opinion, I think the default is to see what these retards do as a symptom of a disorder, because it makes it easier to understand. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris and Adam Lanza weren't just pieces of shit who overreacted to normal teen angst to go out in style - they were disordered in some way. But I think that's an excuse. In reality, it is a deeper discussion that I'm drinking too much to carry on tonight.

You do, as difficult as it, 5 year olds don't carry ID on them, that is the only way you can identify and bury your child.
So theyre having the parents walk through to area with the 20 deceased children to identify their own? Worst story ever gets even worse.
I would imagine they have a pretty good idea, minus some severe trauma, as to which child belongs to whom. I doubt they have to review 20 deceased children.

This and the fact that DNA exists. Or pictures. Or clothes. Or waiting until the deceased bodies have been removed and can be viewed individually. But yea having the parents walk amongst the dead is the only way to identify them.
You don't find it shitty to have to go into a room to identify your 5 year old child's body? Of course it has to be done. Doesn't make it suck any less.
I shed a tear earlier, the pictures of the kids is going to be brutal. 9/11 was easier to understand than this.
The shooter gained access to the school by shooting glass out. Also, his mom may not have been a teacher there. She is not listed as a staff member of the school. so can anyone give me a full story of confirmed info on how today's events went down? so much "confirmed" and redacted info in this thread.... at my schools we had lock down practice or whatever where someone would come on the intercom and say code red or yellow lock down and we would either lock the door and hide in a corner of the class out of sight or just lock the door and go about our business. I've heard of a janitor in Sandy Hook and teachers running around spreading the word but I havent heard of a formal lock down announcement
she's not officially on the school's roster since she was a volunteer but multiple parents from that school said she worked there. FWIW
I don't think that he's trying to be right or correcting anyone, he's just saying that it's something that has to be done.
My 6 year old just did one of these fingerprint/DNA kits as part of CubScouts - http://www.mcgruff-safe-kids.com/businesses/mcgruff-safe-kids-id-kit.html. I really wonder if cops could use something like that to identify any kids and save their parents the agony.
Exactly this. And I doubt they are being asked go into one of the classrooms, but into a space they have moved the bodies to. As for the DNA point, you don't get instantaneous DNA results, this isn't CSI. You try to make things as easy as possible, but the parent has to make a personal identification as miserable as it is, that is what has to be done.
No one argued that there could or should be a better way. No one said that the parents should not have to do it. What was simply said is that it must have been the most fuckef up thing a parent would ever have to do. So not sure what your argument is or what point you are attempting to make.
As I said above I don't think you can get a DNA result back that quickly, may be wrong but as a parent I would like to identify my kid as soon as possible, doesn't mean I would like it, but I would want to get it over with as soon as possible. What I would not want to do is go into the room they were killed in, the cafeteria, gym etc ok, not the classroom.
I was going with the fingerprints in the kit for ID. I have no idea whether I would want to see the body at all.
