I think them having the stop over in the cabin was basically to show both the group and Michonne that each was aware of what they're capable/willing to do i.e. killing non-walker that's a semithreat, because he was going to expose them to the walkers.
The thing about smearing yourself with guts is that it works, but not for very long. Eventually they figure it out. They found them out in Season 1 when they tried it and they even started going after Michonne when she was having a staring contest with Rick through the fence. I would imagine that it's not a pleasant thing to do all the time too.
Yeah that's probably it because that zombie started sniffing real hard at Michonne and probably smelled her period blood. It also attracts bears.
Kinda makes me wonder why axe body spray isnt used more. If everyone smelled like alcohol/scented gasoline would the zombies be able to smell them?

Also, it was mentioned that the fence was down and there were walkers on that side of the prison within the last few episodes. And if Daryl dies then they will have killed the one really, really, really good change/addition they made from the comics to the TV show.
Carl is going places. Last season he was a liability. This season he runs solo missions in the prison without telling people, commands the base when dad is gone, and shot his mom. I fully expect him to ravage the farm chick in the second half of the season. Next year he kills Rick and starts collecting zombie heads.

Spoiler Obviously there's absolutely no context and misleading/fucking with people who watch the previews is their whole goal but it almost looked like Rick might end up getting with Beth (the farm chick). Herschel was not pleased with something in the preview then also in the preview Carl tells his dad he doesn't think he should be the leader anymore. Spoiler'd it because I know some people avoid preview shit at the end of episodes like the plague.
