The Union flag flies over Trinity College, Dublin and crowds throne College Green for the victory parade for the end of the Great War in 1919. Over 200,000 Irishmen fought in the war. Just several months later Ireland would be in the midst of a War of Independence from Britain and be independent just a couple of years later. This picture depicts the illuminated man made border between India and Pakistan, seen from the north from onboard the International Space Station on August 17, 2011. To the left New Delhi, and the cities of Jaipur and Jodpur. At the right edge: Karachi in Pakistan. The most striking feature is something that is frequently thought not to be visible from space - a border.
I'm fascinated by space but the thought of being in it scares the crap out of me. If we ever start flying through the galaxy all willy nilly I'm staying my butt on earth
Fuck that. If I'm going to die I can't think of a better way to do than burning up in Mars's atmosphere.
That works too. This video made me think burning up was likely, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0GwJo_BgYQ
Can't wait to see what sort of stuff we find. We've advanced so far technologically since the last rover was launched.
screw that. I've spent my whole life on earth, son! Being out in the vast nothingness in space would probably literally cause me to lose it. May go into catatonic shock or something.
Love that it will be functional for a full two years, possibly more. Really hope it can find some interesting stuff to spur further missions. I know NASA is hoping to get a rover up there that can do some major inner core drillings, and potentially discover underground cave systems, water deposits, etc.
had never heard of this place before seeing it itt and it looks badass. I love to travel and would love a thread like this one where people post pictures of some of the lesser known or nonobvious badass places in the world such as this. There seems to be lots of places like this that I'd love to add on the must visit list. Would y'all read a thread like that?
Trust me about once every few months this realization hits me again and I go inside. Was on a cruise to Alaska (parents )when I was about 15 and was out on the deck at night and all the stars were crystal clear and if I stood by the rail and looked out all I could see was space and I got uneasy and went inside. It's like when I'm eating crab legs and remember that crabs are basically sea spiders and I have to keep myself from throwing up.
Last king of northern Indian empire prior to British rule (I think last Indian king to fall to the British): His (Kohinoor) diamond, which he was forced to forfeit to the British (now on Queen Elizabeth's crown): Spoiler Years later...after being taken to the UK, converting to Christianity, and assimilated into high British society:
love victorian british history. would love to go back in time and hunt beasts in africa and india in that day
