Mantic, thanks for getting the coupon code fixed. Everything ordered from NY Shaving Co. is pretty sweet. Now I wait for Wednesday to kill myself with it.
Got my bullgoose shipment today. Phil is great. Sent a personal e-mail and the stuff showed up incredibly fast. Now own: 2 soaps 2 creams shave stick Alum badger brush travel brush travel cream travel balm travel pre oil full balm full pre oil better moisturizer styptic pencil and 0.00 DE razor 0.00 DE blades Hurry the F up Amazon. I'll take a pic of the collection once it gets here (Thursday i think)
need soap or cream but broke for the next week. left stuff in omaha, so its either drug store special or not shave.
So a quick question about this - is the small shaving cream sample they included the right amount for 1 shave, 2 shaves?
Bullgoose is a great vendor. That is a pretty impressive order. Also, awesome to see mantic59 checking in on this thread from time to time. Now he would just give me a like, I would feel honored.
not all one order from him. got a lot of AoS stuff i got for holidays in there. But yea was very impressed with him.
First shave post mortem- I decided to shave tonight before bed since I was so excited to try out the new toys and I didn't want to feel rushed tomorrow morning before work. Used the Proraso shave soap with the blades that came with the razor. I face lathered and I obviously need to work on that. I liked it but I didn't come close to getting the lather right but I guess it worked ok for a first try. I definitely need to work on blade angle. While I did get a good shave (4 passes, I was feeling cocky so I went ATG), its not quite as close as I had been getting with the cartridge using the same methods while shower shaving. A little stubble in the obvious places (around the nose, corners of the mouth and around the adam's apple). Overall I really did enjoy it. I took about 30 min from start to finish, and I can say that my face feels much differently than I'm used to after shaving. I did neglect to buy any post shave products other than the witch hazel that was already under the sink, but my face feels "cleaner" for lack of a better description. It doesn't feel tight and dry like I'm used to. I did nick myself a few times but nothing major and I do believe that I will wake up in the morning. I think I'm hooked.
You've got another convert. Been reading this thread for a while and I'm making the plunge tonight. Tired of ingrown hairs, razor burn, and shitty shaves. Ordering my Edwin Jagger, badger brush, sampler blade pack, soap, and aftershave from bullgoose right now. Thanks to TYdeFan05 and others for their advice and contributions in this thread.
Eagle duck, I would get an alum block, styptic pen, and some kind of aftershave balm if I were you. they are all cheap
I had my second shave today before work. I was a little rushed because of time, but the shave was still pretty well executed. I still haven't nicked my face yet, but I also haven't tried ATG yet. I'm doing the two pass shave, and it's good enough until I get more stable. The blade angle has been going pretty well for me, but I watched a lot of videos. Overall, my face feels so much better. When I apply the aftershave it hardly burns, but with the cartridge is was awful bc I'd nick myself or pull hair out. This has been such a rewarding thread. I'm really hooked.
I really like shaving at night, b/c I can take my time more and I get so close of a shave this way that I actually think I have less "5 o'clock shadow" than b4 when I was shaving in the mornings with a cartridge. if I try to shave in the morning, I will often end up rushing too much, b/c I will inevitably wake up late
I have a styptic pen, I just need to get the rest. All in all I'm happy with the first shave and I actually can't wait to shave again tonight.
What is with the seashell-shaped sinks that everyone who makes videos has? Is that a key to a good shave?
a bunch of the youtube comments said the same thing, they were like "he stole mantic's sink!" The best shave has 3 seashells though. Shower, shit, shave
Well, my stuff all got here today and I just got done with my first wet shave... I can't complain, very little bloodshed. I did two passes, one WTG and one E-W then a couple little touchups here and there. One quick pass with the alum block and it was over... Will check in the morning to see if I need to shave again before work, but most likely won't have to. If its fine tomorrow, I may start shaving at night so I can sleep in another 10-15 minutes every morning!
I just did my third wet shave. I still haven't cut myself yet which amazes me. I did four passes this time(WTG, E/W, multidirectional touch up, ATG). It's easily the best shave that I've ever had, but it still isn't baby bottom smooth yet. I can still feel some tiny stubble, but you certainly can't see it. I'm not sure if I need to apply some pressure or maybe these Derby blades suck. I'm still a little nervous around my neck and jawline(I have a very distinct jaw line for TMBers that know what I look like) so I'm still working on my technique there.
I will say in a week my face looks better and feels healthier. That's been the most awesome part of it. I also enjoy assembling my razor, because it feels pretty bad ass.
Let's also talk about back hair. I'm looking at the following product on amazon for my back hair. Anybody have any feedback on this or any product? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019V5ZRC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3CCNW1GE1SADW
Looks like mantic has been doing his homework. This thread is in his new blog post about shaving threads in non-shaving forums. We are the 'sports' link. http://sharpologist.com/2012/01/we-are-everywhere-shaving-discussions-in-non-shaving-forums.html
Hahahaha Some of those places are 2 years, 55 pages. We're at 2 weeks, 14 pages. We'll have the top non-shaving site thread within about 6 weeks or so.
He also sent out a newsletter this addressed to new shavers. It hit all my concerns of mistakes made on my initial shaves. Its almost like he was writing directly to me.
Can anyone recommend a good straight razor? I have been using the safety razor for about 5 years (its the tits), but would like to get a straight razor. I bought one that uses the safety razor blades just to see if I would like it, and it is great. If you think you get a close shave with a safety razor try the straight razor. I thought it would be hard to shave with one, but it is really the same technique as the safety razor as for as the angle and pressure of the blade are concerned. Also thanks for the suggestions in this thread in regards to the different shaving creams and soaps. I ordered a puck of the Mama Bears earlier in the week, and expect it to get hear today. Happy shaving gentleman.
So tried to Razorock soap last night and granted i dont have much experience with different soaps and creams...i really like it. Lathered well and the fragrance was light but pleasant (Violet). It was also bigger than i was expecting so I'll have it for a long time. Got a tube of Proraso with the shipment so that will be next to try.
hey pros , looking for a post shave balm I can pick up locally. Hit me. I have some Aqua Di gio but I know it is probably complete shit for my face
