Lol of course wheels finally gets a solid hit and immediately thrown out going for a double then Marcel homers….
Something similar happened last year. AJ got cooked by Yordan in a high leverage situation in late April and it took him 2-3 weeks to get over it. Granted he was closing then when iggy was on the IL
What's going on with Ronnie and Matty? I know Ronnie can be a slow starter but Olson batting under 200 is ummm wow. Team is very frustrating to follow right now and Phillies are rolling.
Few things: 1. Ronnie is showing signs of life and is close 2. Olson is in the worst slump of his career, but is usually a slow starter 3. Phillies last played a team with a winning record on 3/31 (it was us)
Appreciate that. I haven't sat and watched us a lot this year but have of course followed. Just a weird start. Ron is usually a slow starter but the lack of HR is weird right? Guess having a slump after last year's MVP season is to be expected. This just seems odd with the lack of HRs. His average is now about right. Olson is a killer though at sub 200. Idk. Do we miss Wash's presence and what he brought to the clubhouse? I'm just not getting good vibes about this team so far but as we know that can change with such a long season.
Still think it’s mostly a little bad luck mixed in with facing elite pitching recently. Braves still lead MLB in exit velo and even with this recent skid, this is our 2nd best record at this point in the season since our consecutive division title streak began. Hopefully it flips soon and we start beasting HRs again as the temp rises
Stolen from elsewhere. We've played 1/5 of the season and we're 19th in baseball in HR. Last year we were first in HR and second place was 58 behind us. A remarkable drop off in power and 32 games is more than just a slow start wouldn't you say? Ronnie is on pace for 10 HR this season at this point. Olson is on pace for 15. We have a combined 5 HR from Olson and Ronnie. Last year they might hit 5 or more in a week. Phils now lead division by 2.5. Will likely be 3 after today with us off and Wheeler pitching today. They now have best winning percentage in baseball. I will say Phillies have played the #30th SoS in baseball and we're middle of the pack at 15 apparently. Still I don't see how you can't be concerned that this team might dig a big hole quickly with how we're playing and with the struggles from our top two players.
Not concerned over 3 games in May. This offense will get hot and nobody will remember this time if everybody stays healthy.
All I was saying is that it can grow quickly. We went from first to down three games in the last week. My point wasn't being down 2.5-3 games in May. My point is the power drop-off. If not for Ozuna being as hot as he's been not sure where this team would be right now. He's got 10 HR, batting 0.306, 33 RBI, OPS of 0.985. Just having conversation on this off day.
5 HR combined from Ron and Matty 32 games in. They had about 16 this time last year looks like. I guess my memory isn't good. I'm looking back on last season now. Ron hit his 6th HR game 31. He was batting 355 at the time. Matty was batting 246 but had hit 10 HR. We were 22-10 through our first 32 last year. Idk just looking for some positives during this slump. Until last week we had not lost back to back games yet.
The lineup is proven enough to not be that concerned. Actually the bigger positive is that for the most part, the rotation has looked really solid. Much more of a question mark coming into the year.
you’re being doom and gloom off a bad week stretch on the west coast three of which were one run games. if you can’t handle a little light pushback on that, that’s a you problem imo
Just having discussion my guy. What do you want to discuss in the Braves thread on an off day coming off of a 1-5 west coast road trip?
gus_chiggins said it well. All things considered we've been a bit unlucky at the plate, and some of our core bats just haven't woken up yet. Plenty of reason to believe we will get it going, and a week against two of the best teams/rotations in baseball probably made things feel worse than they are, coupled with the Phillies playing a joke of a schedule so far. I would like to see some more consistency from the 1-4 guys, but some of that just means BABIP falling our way a bit more.
I really haven't looked at the babip for players. Need to find that info and see what that looks like. I do feel like I see a lot of 100mph+ EV for outs when following on my phone but like I said I haven't been able to sit and watch us a lot.
Just the one, yeah. Add in the shoulder stuff, the back and the fact he's not in great shape, and it just seems cooked regardless.
Matzek is a Brave great. That inning against the Dodgers is the biggest inning of the last 15+ years.
