I am actually not a Whistle Pig hater. They make some good ryes. I think the issue people here had with them was high retail price and honestly the market has caught up quite a bit in the past few years.

 

Trying to think of what I’ve sent them previously.

I know I’ve gifted OWA and Smokewagon uncut unfiltered but they didn’t like UU as much as Uncut the Younger.

Offered them the 2nd ETL that pprc sent me but they passed

I agree, but some people just like what they like I guess. I bet a few folks here have some quirks as well

Post an opinion that will be unpopular when it comes to bourbon: I’ll start, I don’t care for Blantons or eagle rare, I think they’re both overrated

Old Rip Van Winkle tastes good and I like it.

 

I personally like it better than the Russel's 13 I have.

 

A lot of Buffalo Trace is overrated.

I don't think the Blantons opinion is unpopular at all. Any one who actually likes bourbon knows that it isn't worth it one bit.

 

I'd like to try Blantons SftB. I'm sure that's quite a bit better but definitely not worth what it goes for I'm guessing.

 

My most unpopular opinions are I like Weller 12, Barrell 15 year, and Clyde May's cask strength 8 year and older.

The older cask strength are really good as I am a fan of apple notes, and since CM uses apple in the process they are definitely there. In the older ones though, it is not as fruit forward and in your face as if someone just stuck fruit in your cocktail like th eyounger lower proof offerings, which I do not like very much.

 

People that wait in lines at BT for eht smb, Blantons, wsr, and eagle rare are true taters. IMO

 

Unpopular opinion (I think) is that I think the BTAC collection is a better product than any/all of the Van Winkle line (10 thru 23).

I also think Sagamore out of MD is some of the best Rye out there

 

I agree with that first statement completely

 

Sagamore is mgp rye but they have probably the best prices on it

 

I'm not sure the first is an unpopular opinion. BTAC obviously has more range in terms of types of whiskey and proof and also out age a good amount of the Pappy line.

 

Agreed on BTAC. Pappy 15 is pretty good but definitely not worth the price. I think 20 and 23 are over oaked.

 

15 is my favorite although a great bottle of Lot B is hard to beat as an enjoyable low proof sipper.

 

Another hot take: eht barrel proof is the best offering of the eht line up.

Because people pay insane prices for sour mash, warehouse c tornado surviving, 18 yr marriage, etc

 

Haven't had the pleasure but that doesn't surprise me.

 

Haven't had any BTAC, yet. Waiting a couple more weeks on the birth of our first kid to open my '22 GTS.

I've had some '22 Lot B and some '23 Old Rip that were both pretty damn good. However, I didn't notice a significant difference from CYPB.

Also havent tried the EHTBP, but it's near the top of my wish list.

 

Would never wait in line for them, but I do enjoy getting EHT small batch to have in the regular rotation. It's by far my favorite of the base BT offerings (BT, ER, Weller, EHT, Blantons)

 

Oh well, I wouldn't count those because they are one off releases that vary greatly between releases. I thought we were just talking about the standard EHT stuff.

 

Whenever I see a post on Twitter or Facebook of someone flexing one of these bottles it takes everything in me to keep from saying something snarky. I try to let my better side rule and allow them to have their victory.

My fav is when someone posts a pic of their trip to the trail, and they come home with bottles they could have gotten at the local liquor store.

 

Speaking of, weren’t they supposed to release a barrel proof rye?

 

I think within the last couple years they've transitioned to their own juice. I know the 8-year rye release they had I think in 2022 was their own stuff. I got a couple bottles of their 8 year when it first came out and compared it against a couple 7-year NBC rye picks I had and thought the Sagamore blew them out of the water.

 

I've had all of these and the only thing I'd pay over 20-30 bucks a pour for is the cured oak

 

Hot take: I like EHT 4 grain

 

Hot take: JDCH is up there with some of the BTAC

 

I really hope I can track down this new batch coming out. I love all the recent JD stuff.

 

This Midwest Pumpernickel Rye Seelbachs just posted sounds pretty damn good. Anyone have any experience with their stuff?

 

That seems like an awful lot of money for a 5 year rye. Too many finishes also for my taste.
