This is from a transcript of a pod Jam3s did: Scotto: Do you have a percentage on Monty returning? Edwards: That’s tough. I think the situation has gotten a little weird. Gores’ comments were interesting going back to December. The fact that they’re hiring a President of Basketball Operations and giving that person full autonomy if they want to clean house. Factoring in how much money he makes, I’d say 60-40, he’s not the coach next year. Scotto: Do you think Troy is back next year? Edwards: I think it would be very hard. If I were Troy, why would I want to seemingly be demoted? Do I think Detroit values some of what he brings to the table? For sure, specifically the scouting stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a world where the door is opened, depending on who they hire for him to come back. But if I’m Troy, if I have an option somewhere else, why would I want to work under somebody when I was running the show for the last few years? I think this President of Basketball Operations will be good for the Pistons. They need a clean reset as the outside perception of them is there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen. A lot of teams have a President of Basketball Operations, and they haven’t had one in six years. Is this being used as the blanket for Tom Gores not wanting to admit any mistakes he’s made in terms of hiring and allowing and having it known that the President of Basketball Operations has the freedom tohire and fire people as they please? The question I’d ask myself if I’m ownership as it pertains to Monty is do I feel like there’s a chance that 20 to 30 games into next season I’ll want to move on? If there’s a part of you that says yes, why not do it now when you’re starting fresh? You can’t go into the middle of next season, and if things go bad again, then you do it.
I am in favor of all that. But if Gores is truly willing to allow the new guy to do all that, just fire Weaver now and make it clear in order to possibly attract a better candidate.
It seems like Horst is probably the top candidate (if he comes available) but is he good? I can’t make heads or tails of what the issues are in Milwaukee.
There is a great episode of Married With Children where Lower Uncton can’t come out of perpetual darkness until all make Bundy’s are dead. That’s what’s happening here but with the Tellem’s.
For Discussion: JE3 proposal Pistons Trade Jaden Ivey Jalen Duren #1 pick Nets Trade Mikal Bridges Dorian Finney-Smith Lottery protected 25 pick https://pistonpowered.com/posts/grade-trade-proposal-detroit-pistons-moving-two-young-players/3
What the fuck would be the point of that? You trade Duren because you’re drafting his replacement. Not because you want to package him with the 1 overall pick for a 28 year old who has never been an all star.
What would you trade for Brandon Ingram? Ingram will be 27 next season. He's averaged between 20-25 PPG five straight years. He's averaged 5.5+ APG the last three years. He's a solid but low volume 3-point shooter. He also makes $36M next season in the last year of his deal and would be in line for an extension for well over $200M into his early 30s as someone who is an obvious top 50 player but probably not all that close to a top 25 one. I think NO has to consider it because it has Trey Murphy and Herb Jones to play those spots and they both probably fit better with a healthy Zion. Would you do Ivey + Stewart? No players, but the #1 overall pick + maybe Stewart? I think I would do both of those pretty easily, given how terrible this draft is and how much Ivey is probably never realizing his potential here as long as Monty and Cade are around.
I think trading Ivey is the right thing for him, unfortunately. Note that I’d rather keep him and trade Cade and Monty
He has them signing Nik Claxton as a restricted free agent and part of the offseason plan. Basically trying to recreate a team that couldn't even make the play in.
Beef Stew is out on Twitter being anti-vax. I now support moving him for nothing or tossing in some 2s if that’s what’s needed
I am surprised we haven’t heard any updates on the Basketball Ops position. Really feels like we are waiting on Horst possibly coming available.
From Kevin O’Connor Who will run the Milwaukee Bucks? Two weeks ago, Marc Stein reported that the Detroit Pistons have interest in hiring Bucks general manager Jon Horst to lead their basketball operations. Stein’s scoop didn’t get much traction. The playoffs had yet to begin, and the report didn’t exactly predict that anything will happen. But league sources tell me there’s a real possibility that Horst will take the gig in Detroit. Now, why would Horst leave the Bucks for the league’s worst team? He is a Michigan native who got his start working in the NBA as a front office assistant with the Pistons. In his 16 years with the Bucks, he’s risen up the ranks, but his power has dwindled in recent years. Giannis Antetokounmpo was more or less able to choose Adrian Griffin to be the Bucks head coach last summer, even though Horst wanted Nick Nurse. Then ownership chose Doc Rivers, though Horst wanted Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson. And after years of bolstering the roster around Giannis, the Bucks now have the second-oldest team in the league, have suffered major injuries in three straight postseasons, and don’t have the rights to any of their firsts until 2031. This confluence of circumstances might make the prospect of a fresh, malleable start appealing.
I’m probably alone on this take but I don’t think we should trade Duren, Ivey and the 24 1 for a “star” I don’t think Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges or Brandon Ingram move the needle from 13 wins to 30
Depends on the star. Booker would be a no brainer. I don't think Bridges or Ingram is worth all three of those things.
Can we though? Because the stepien rule prevents you from trading your 1st back to back years and since ours next year is potentially tied up I don't think we can trade this year's. Although I think we could move it draft night after picking the player. Think that may be a work around
We can trade as soon as the lottery happens. At that point all of the conditions to trade will have been met. The occurrence of next year is not applicable edit: sorry can’t trade until “draft night” https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ot...-to-sign-or-trade-for-an-all-star/ar-AA1nsf8Z

On draft night (after the player is picked), so you trading the player not the pick. Part of reason nba draft trades are so weird
Also, the way nba 1sts are being thrown around, in a bad draft is Ishbia even going to want our pick plus Ivey and Duren for his only younger star when I'm sure he could get more picks and probably better players back? I don't see the Sun's go into an immediate tank anyway
That's what the timing would be no matter what they do because of the cap, anyway. You're getting caught up in stuff that doesn't matter here regarding the timing of trading the pick.
I'm not sure if Horst would be a good hire. Gores loves hiring names for headlines in FO and coaching roles and all of them have sucked. The good news about a Horst hire is he would have the kind of leverage to get assurances that Gores would pay up to fire Monty if he (Horst) didn't want him.
I mean it makes sense, checks both of Gores boxes Spoiler: Boxes 1. He's heard of him 2. He can talk well enough to bullshit Gores into thinking it's a good idea
Omari with a job search update: - Search is taking a while because of the process of interviewing people whose teams are still playing - Turnkey is leading the search - Two names he definitely thinks are candidates are Dennis Lindsey (former Utah GM before Ainge) and Scott Perry (former NYK GM and long time Dumars guy in Detroit) - Redick is a longshot due to lack of experience I don't know what to think of Perry. He was GM of the Knicks from 17-23. The Knicks are actually really well run right now and have a massive cache of assets. But I don't know how responsible he is or isn't for anything during their current iteration because Leon Rose has been the team president since 2020. Perry is also already 60 years old. Lindsey is currently a consultant with the Mavs. I think that would probably be the most analytical hire they could make. He was generally viewed as being a good GM when he was in Utah and built the team with Conley/Mitchell/Gobert that was pretty good.
It probably doesn't matter because no one has any clue what we'll do until a new Ops guy is hired to run the show, but Edwards posting a little lottery preview where he said Sarr would be the clear favorite if we get the #1 pick. He also mentioned 7 different names, and presumed top 1-2 player Zacharie Risaccher wasn't one of them. Not sure if Edwards just thinks he sucks or has some intel, but that's kind of weird. Also didn't mention Dillingham from UK, who a lot of people think is a top 3-5 guy.
I don’t want Darvin Ham either. The Lakers did not look well-coached at all and really only had success with 2 of the best players of all time on their roster. I know Monty sucks thus far, but doubt Ham would solve anything
I don't think they would actually trade coaches. We have no clue who is running the org at this point so we have no clue who he might want as coach. It might still be Monty. The story in that video is more about LAL possibly being interested in Monty based on previous interest. Which I don't actually believe will happen but it's nice that someone said out loud that it could.
I would be curious to know who is more valuable in a trade between Sarr and Duren if it comes to that.
