SAT/ACT scores were garbage according to someone on the board. Can’t these kids pay someone to take it for them like the guys I played with who went to b10 and sec did?

Can't remember the last time we landed a guy from Oklahoma. Matt Romine I think? That was a disappointment
That's the part of NIL that's frustrating. Best player on a top 5 team going into next season. Has gotten so much exposure. What is "up" from here on the court???
D3 Recruiting thoughts and concerns Spoiler This 2025 recruiting cycle has been interesting to say the least. There are some positions I really, really like, or positions that I think will end up really, really good. There are other positions I’m a bit more concerned about. There are two positions that have me the most puzzled, so I wanted to share some thoughts. DEFENSIVE LINE Things started off really well for Al Washington. Landing Christopher Burgess and Davion Dixon was really big, and I love Joseph Reiff’s upside. CJ May is a guy I liked, but I did thinking taking him as early as they did was a bit of a head scratcher. From there things got a little weird, beginning with them basically not being thrilled about keeping May in the class, which was strange. Why take him then? I don’t really fault them for losing Damien Shanklin, but not having a back up plan makes no sense to me. Then Washington not liking Marco Jones just blew my mind. It’s wild following his recruiting. He has done some really good things, but also some really not so good things, and some really strange, head scratching things. The Marco Jones thing is bad and head scratching. There are other guys in the 2025 class that I don’t understand why they pushed for, but why they didn’t push for others. I’m watching Javeon Campbell blow up, but Notre Dame is trying to slow play him for some odd reason. It just doesn’t make sense. The Vyper strategy is a major head scratcher. In fact, it’s so strange that I have to think there’s something else in the works. I’ve disagreed with their DL strategy at times, and been critical of Washington’s evaluations for sure, but I’ve never felt like they didn’t have a plan. You might disagree with the Sevillano vs. Wafle evaluation, but they had a plan. You might not have liked taking Cole Mullins over other bigger name players (I actually did, I think that was arguably Washington’s best evaluation), but they had a plan. With Vyper it’s like they have no plan. So either they are caught with their pants down for the first time, or there is something else in the works? I’m really starting to wonder. Is there a portal guy that’s going to jump in during the spring period that they know about, and that’s why they aren’t really looking for another Vyper? Maybe. I hope that’s the case, actually, because depending on who that player is it would make me feel better. If that’s not it, then I’m just stumped. We’ll see how it plays out, but thinking about a DL class that is Burgess, Dixon, Reiff, Marco Jones and Javeon Campbell would have me suuuuuuper fired up. That’s what it should be, to be honest. WIDE RECEIVER This is another puzzling position. I understand why they took Bettis, I do, and I don’t care to spend time on that one. The rest of WR recruiting has been strange. I’m all about taking Elijah Burress, and I grade him much higher than most. That was a great evaluation, and that first impression for Mike Brown was strong for me. Since then, it’s been a bit strange. I don’t understand the need to take Shaun Terry so early. I like Terry, I do, but you already had Burress and you knew you were going to get Bettis. Just seemed a bit strange to take him so early when you had guys like Daylan McCutcheon really high on your program, and then you completely passed on Cooper Perry. I get there were some questions about McCutcheon’s speed, but is that not also a bit of a question with Jayvan Boggs? The staff absolutely loves Derek Meadows, and I get it, but they don’t seem to be pushing as hard for some other guys that I like alot. Why? Maybe there is a fit issue. The new push for Tanook Hines is also a bit of a head scratcher for me. I actually like Hines, and while his floor is a bit lower right now I really like his ceiling. But it’s yet another situation where I say this, I like every WR they took, but I don’t love that they are taking all of them. Perhaps they are looking for more program guys, or developmental guys that they know might be okay sitting for a year or two while Greathouse, Faison, KK Smith, Gilbert and Williams are dominating the reps? I could actually understand that, but that’s not what I’ve heard up to this point. I think Brown is doing a PHENOMENAL job as the position coach. Love what I see from him. I think he has a really, really good evaluation eye as well. I don’t know him at all, have never spoken to him, so I don’t know what his strategy is. If I knew it was what I stated above I’d feel a bit better. But the other side of the coin is this, is he recruiting at Notre Dame like he did at Cincinnati and Wisconsin? While there are certainly a couple of guys there that would be dudes at ND, the fact is being at ND allows you to recruit the best. Yes, take some developmental guys with really high ceilings, all about that. But that shouldn’t only be it. Is that their strategy? I honestly don’t know, it’s my best attempt at reading the situation. I’m definitely in let it play out scenario right now with those two positions. I really want to see how it plays out, and what happens with the portal at Vyper. That could make so many things more clear but right now I’m a bit “uhhhh, guys, what are we doing here?” Going to be interesting to see how they fill up at WR, especially after filling up so unnecessarily quickly. Now, the opposite side is that I absolutely love the safety class that ND is putting together. Love the Tayl0r-Long duo, and I love where they are with Blair. Should they land him (still work to do) that would give them their highest upside safety since Kyle Hamilton back on 2019. I don’t see anyone in college football landing a better safety class than that. No one. Same at corner. Y’all know I like Cree Thomas, have him as a Top 150 guy. I love where ND is with Dallas Golden and Mark Zackary. I also think ND is doing really well with Trystan Hines and Jahmir Joseph. If they can land three of those four players this is a truly program changing secondary class, and one I don’t see anyone in college football matching in the 2025 cycle. So obviously some things to be fired up about, but also wanted to share my other thoughts on it. What do you guys think? Let’s have a constructive conversation here. This isn’t meant to be a “the staff sucks” post, because it doesn’t, and responding that the coaches know best isn’t useful. Just bashing also isn’t useful. So leave taht stuff on here. Let’s have a productive conversation. Anyone see it differently? What do y’all think about the possible strategy I’m discussing. Let’s talk!
that's exactly what I was thinking when I read that...this guy believes his evaluations are wayyyy better than everyone else's and his little followers hang on to every word he says
Happy to see people on the beat are finally starting to listen to me. We’ve been recruiting receiver and vyper like idiots for years.
but WR has gotten considerably better once Del left...like a different world better. Even this cycle, I love Burress and Tanook and Shaun Terry is elite as his specific skillset. Bettis is whatever but that's just someone you have to take for the good of the program and I would just bring him in as an athlete and figure it out later Vyper has some question marks but I will be curious to see how the rest of this cycle plays out before I really criticize it
Burton to the draft but keeping a foot at ND, seems smart. He's to small to get drafted now I would guess, but who knows.
So for the first time in like 20 years the beat gets to watch the whole jersey scrimmage on Saturday.
Seems like they like what they have this year, that said, glad my blue-gold tix were free, it's going to be an absolute snooze.
