On a serious note, the recovery from this from what my wife described (she had to have two surgeries) was brutal.
I might be wrong but isn't blackface being offensive an American thing due to how they used it to portray black people in old movies? Other cultures probably don't understand the cultural history and why it's offensive to Americans and think it's a way of impersonation.
It's an American thing. I live in Mexico and it's not thought of as derogatory here. All of the Mexicans I know think our fixation on racism in the US is super weird. There's a restaurant I’ve seen called El Negro for instance. Took this photo:
Yes, that’s part of it the over the top portrayal. Also white people putting on black face and getting paid instead of paying and just using black actors.
