Thinking this might be the year I finally get myself a generator, all the predictions do not make me feel warm and fuzzy about the season to come. Anyone have a gennie they would recommend?
Just some essentials, mainly to power something to combat the expected 90+ temps and humidity, charge phones, etc
I am not in a hurricane path but this one has served me well Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment 7500 Peak Watt Home Backup Portable Generator, Transfer Switch Ready 30A Outlet, Gas Powered https://a.co/d/14yBpZK
have this one: https://www.harborfreight.com/gener...ator-with-co-secure-technology-epa-59207.html We use it to power a medium size refrigerator with drinks, a couple fans, and the TV for after hurricanes. We could put a lot more on it if we wanted It’s also useful for tailgating
It could be right, it could be wrong. I’m just saying these people make a guess citing all sorts of factors and none of it matters. It’s too early to predict anything.
Yeah they've been claiming we're due to have another Hugo-esq storm for years now. Nothing that's hit has been more than a 1. Now we've had some storms that's caused some floods, but nothing in terms of what Hugo did from a wind standpoint. Matthew came through a year after the 1000 year flood and the ground was still saturated pretty badly from that. Florence took a wild path by going up, then coming back down, and then going up again. I can't really think of any others that had anything of significance.
exactly. The best way to treat hurricane season is to be prepared to hunker down from june to November every year. June rolls around, check your permanent supplies like shutter screws, drill bit for shutter screws, generator, make sure any broken windows are fixed, etc. Then when a big storm forms, go get your water/TP/Peanut butter. If it hits, you are ready, if not, keep that stuff off to the side until the season is over.
Their busiest prediction ever, 23 named/11 hurricanes/5 major https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ne-season-outlook-colorado-state/73147475007/
Good write up here https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/...-hurricane-season-and-thats-not-a-good-thing/
We will be fine, we go through this every year....We will get maybe one or two that make landfall (Florida) and everything will go somewhere else....
Yup. This is the SOP. Doom and gloom from March-June, then it's nowhere near as bad as predicted. One day the big one will hit each of our areas and there is no way to accurately predict when it will be until the storm is 24 hours away.
Yeah, it was in jest. Pretty unlikely we take a direct hit, but with building codes up here, and the water table / proximity to ocean & St John’s River… it won’t take a direct hit to be catastrophic
Most of Florida is this way. It's honestly insane how I still see so many wood framed houses that look to be less than 20 years old every time I leave south florida. You'd think everyone would have learned from Sally that the only building on the water left standing was the one that was built up to Miami-Dade Code.
