yeah that definitely seemed like a "i'm gonna get a penalty for that one, better cover my ass" kinda radio call.
The thing I think about with that crash is that there should have been an immediate red flag when George slid out into the road on a curve; if Stroll were just a little less on the ball, we’d be having a very, very different and very, very bad conversation about this.
did you see this? https://dubz.co/c/f82a3d george was understandably panicking knowing that he was on his side on the track
A car stuck in the middle of the track should be a red... the fact he was sideways and in the middle of the track. That's looney toons.
As shitty as it sounds, I bet Race Control decided they just didn’t want to deal with a red flag to then have them parade around for the final lap around the safety car.
https://www.motorsportweek.com/2024...f-under-perezs-floor-caused-significant-loss/ tear offs are a menace
I don’t think that a red flag makes any significant difference in negating the immediate danger. He initially goes off track and was sliding around for a couple of seconds before re-entering the track. Stroll was 12s back and closing for those few seconds, Tsunoda 4-5 more. By the time they see the incident, send an alert, and communicate Stroll is nearly there, everyone else has sufficient time being some of the best race car drivers in the world to take appropriate avoiding action. Red or yellow, the first 5-10 seconds where the danger lives looks the same under both flags.
Track should have been red flagged when a disabled car was parked in the middle of the road. End of story. Why take the risk of someone getting killed
Danny Ric probably just needs an Indycar ride. Great ambassador for the sport, would do well with sponsors here.
Makes sense to have him do it at his home GP. I wouldn’t connect that and the alleged ultimatum on DR aside from maybe a little bit of a jab at him.
I think DR will get more time in that seat. Horner is the one who clearly wanted him and he’s still in charge (for now) even though crazy helmut is talking non stop. Would love to see DR in Indy though also.
Just adding this to the fun rumors for that seat. Everyone thought the Merc seat would be where everyone would be competing, but with Danny Ric being trash and Red Bull not thinking Yuki has what it takes then it could be a battle between Alonso, Sainz, and Perez. The Antonelli kid has been good in F2 so far, he's been better than Bearman in the same car. So I think Mercedes may just go that direction.
Surprised they’d commit to another experienced driver instead of moving to one of their academy kids.
It sounds like Red Bull doesn't believe any of their current academy kids (maybe Hadjar) are up to their F1 standards even for the junior team. With Lawson probably taking Riccardo's seat, I bet Yuki's seat is available for 2026 with the end of the Honda deal at the end of 2025.
Yeah he has, main thing with F2 is comparing to their teammate race to race. He’s been ahead of Bearman most weekends and we know how good Bearman is.
Haven't seen anything recently about red bull's upgrades that were tentatively slated for Suzuka. Will be very interesting to see if they go with the zero sidepod concept.
I really want to see this concept either fail spectacularly to create competition or be unbelievably successful to see Toto's reaction. Anything in the middle of that will be just boring since they are already blowing out the field* *when not having brake issues.
I know that was the first thing Fred wanted to fix and basically all of the Zandvoort FPs last year were spent trying to fix the correlation.
it was literally the same story all last year with the, "car isn't matching the sim" I'm convinced it's just a convenient excuse because they can't say, "our engineers are shit"
They don’t have a good understanding of the current regulations, I don’t see it getting fixed anytime soon and at this point they are counting down the days until Jan 2025 when they can start work on the new regs for 2026. You can see why Lewis felt the need to get out of there.
the new regs are more centered on engine vs aero. Mercedes knows what the problem is, they just can’t figure out what’s causing it. Same shit happens to Ferrari. They knew the issue, they changed it in the factory and ran sims. It showed improvement and they fabricated the changes. Put it on the car and they either had no improvement or negative impact. Same shit is happening to Mercedes. These floors and body work are so complicated that it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. Mercedes ride hight is too high. When they lower they bounce. So they raise the height and become very draggy. They’re still not understanding how not to bounce.
