-this isn’t addressed much in the book from what I remember -yeah they’ve kinda cut the navigators from the story so far -house was getting too popular, iirc. Pretty simple. -visions are from the spice awakening his latent powers. Simple.
Man it’s hard for me to read this kind of stuff and not wonder how this person hasnt managed to kill themselves by accident
I feel like the god toddler would have felt like M Night’s Avatar remake so good for Denis for not going in that direction
Have not seen Dune 2 or read the books, but rewatching Dune 1 in preparation House Atreides was supposedly becoming almost as powerful as the emperor so he struck them down w/ the Harkonens. Such a powerful house must had have allies among the other important houses. How did the those houses react to the emperor's betrayal and the annihilation of one of their friends? Is this covered in Dune 2?
None of the other houses knew the Emperor was in on it. Still not sure how they responded to the Harkonens though.
They’re bitter rivals with a blood feud that goes back centuries. I think a sweeping massacre would just be like another Thursday between them.
The other houses of the Landsraad did not know that the Emperor House Corrino) was involved with the fued between the Baron and The Duke. I was kind of under the impression when they found out, they really didn’t “do anything” about it due to the unfolding events
That was great. I had really high expectations, and they were met if not exceeded. Also, I’ll take some of what they were on when they made that.
In San Antonio for a work trip and just realized my hotel is across the street from a 70mm imax just got a ticket for 6:30 I’m ready I hope I get the bucket
i saw it there sunday, seat j21 screen and sound were great but the seats are pretty dogshit btw. probably the same ones from 1998.
Early 90s Walken would have been a great Emperor. Batman Returns era. I don't know if old man Walken was the right pick, but maybe him being a feeble old man without much presence was intentional. He wields a lot of power but isn't half the man the people around him are.
Okay, time for me to skip this thread until after I've seen D2. Just a few too many little nuggets getting out there...
The score from when Emperor Cowbell kisses the ring till the end of the movie is Hans Zimmer’s best work to date honestly and thats saying something
Saw it last night Spoiler Wish we got to see a little more of the battle when Paul and the Fremen overtook Arakeen but whatevs that's just little nitpicky shit, the movie is fucking gorgeous and the pacing was good to the point you don't realize the run time is 2.20 hrs. Florence Pugh = swoon
yeah, I was worried about having to take a piss but the bladder held. could've sworn I saw on IMDB the run time was 2:19 but whatevs...it went fast
Just got out, and also just finished the book for the first time yesterday. Cinematically, 9/10. I’m a subtitles guy so I will certainly enjoy when it’s out on streaming (Rabban’s dialogue was terrible). Taking the book into account: Spoiler: Book Spoilers Honestly, a little disappointed. They crammed 2+ years into 8 months. In the book they did a time jump which would have worked just as well in theater. They dramatically changed Paul and Chani’s relationship. She was all in on his conquest, killed a Fremen who was about to challenge Paul to strike fear they had to go through her to get to him, they had a child??? Paul and Jessica reassured her place in the world even with him marrying the Emperors daughter. Jessica likened her concubine status stating “history will remember us as wives”. Paul reiterated their desire to have more children as Leto II, their son, died in the attack on Sietch Tabr (also the Emperor did this, not the Harkonnen’s). Maybe they did all do this to add some emotions to the characters, but a complete 180. Regardless of difficulty or losing some audience, they should have brought in Aria (Paul’s sister/Jessica’s daughter). Because Aria was in Jessica when she took the Water of Life, she also gained Reverend Mother gifts and has the same knowledge. She’s essentially a 2 year old Bene Gesserit. She actually kills the Baron in the Emperor’s ship. I mean they randomly added the cannibal girls to Frey’s entourage, I think they could have pulled off Aria. Halleck introduction felt rushed. She should have had a throwback to him joining the smugglers. They just completely left out Hawat still being alive and working for the Baron. His ending at the final meeting was great. I’m sure there’s more, but this was quick reaction after leaving.
As an avid book fan, I think leaving out the God Toddler was the right call. It’s one of the worst parts of the book imo and was stupid af in 1984 movie.
