That score for 1989 is hilarious. It's pretty widely considered to be one of the best pop albums of the decade. Rolling Stone ranked it the 19th best album of the 2010s (behind TPAB fwiw).

It's a reflection of the view of 1989 in comparison to those laughable contemporary reviews. I took a quick peak at some of them and one dude gave it a 6/10 seemingly entirely because it wasn't a country album. 1989 is great. It's packed with banger pop songs and lots of people love it. Idk what the exact criteria is for Album of the Year but this shit is all subjective and tons of people love that album.

They did it because they knew that by the end of the night she would have won another controversial AOTY over SZA and Beyonce. I brought up the TPAB year as well to say there has been controversy before. it’s absolutely not an indictment on the quality of her music or your ability to enjoy it.
