I think WKU and MTSU to the MAC was rumored at one point and I think the MAC decided to pass at that time.
I get football is king but I just don't get UMass to the MAC in all sports. UConn seems like the only smart school that said fuck chasing football and let's double down on our strength. Best they can do probably is go like 6-6 every now and then and play in Montgomery before Christmas. Now their basketball program (which hasn't been good in awhile but they do spend and are top 100 in KenPom right now) is going from a multi-bid league that makes sense for them geographically and traditionally to a one-bid league with neither.
to be fair the MAC has historically been a really good basketball conference, it’s just struggled recently
This is all being pushed by the media outlets, and there’s nothing media types like doing more than copying successful case studies. College football will look more and more like the NFL as time goes on. Two conferences handling their own side of the playoff bracket and all.
if we get a real playoff just to go back to a system in which theres a 4 team sec playoff to determine who goes to a 4 team playoff i quit
This would make the sport much better than whatever 16 model alt there is imo. Bring back the 4 team, each conference at 20 members with 4 divisions or whatever. Each has 4 team playoff. Winners of each go to 4 team playoff of conference winners. Put focus back on winning your conference and beating your conference foes instead of trying to put it all in a playoff for a sport where the playoff has never been the focus. Who cares if conferences aren’t equal, because winning the B1G or SEC or B12 or ACC will actually mean a lot in this and every member that makes the 4 team can hang their hat on this that they had an opportunity to get there.
opinions and such. i like the idea of a real playoff and if weve gone through all this bullshit over the last decade to ultimately not end up there i'm going to be pretty disappointed and will give up on the sport.
A&M is perfect for the B1G More money than they can effectively use Don’t win shit Kind of a cult (being generous) Degree farms Mostly just a front old whites doing sex crimes
Removing aTm would allow the SEC to add Clemson, Duke, Florida St, UNC, and UVA to get to 20. Could be an interesting conference. Though I’m 100% against splitting into divisions. I’m all for a much more creative schedule that preserves more rivalries and allows for more frequent play of every school than divisions would do.
This would be the funniest scenario, if only to watch their fans assume that they'll be able to win in an easier conference and still never do it.
Works for me. It would be hilarious. I personally think if the B1G wants a single southern school to go with Notre Dame that Ga Tech makes the most sense. Atlanta seems like a great spot to plant a flag. And the school profile fits.
Just figured y’all wanted a lifeline. If you don’t want it, not a problem with me. Kansas has been my previously stated preference to get to 20 anyway.
Not a problem. The basketball would be ridiculous in this 20 team SEC. I also would love to renew the Border War annually while continuing getting to see you guys fuck with Texas and beat them every few years. You know what, fuck it. Y’all are back in over FSU. Clemson can just replace aTm in my previous 20 team SEC.
The Big 12 would kick UCF out (and a majority of the big 12 schools) if it meant they were exchanging them for A&M
Maybe this is true, but it seems silly to think that we only got the pac 12 schools to come aboard because of *checks notes* Cincy, UCF, Houston and BYU.
UNC can’t change conferences without approval from its Board of Governors, which is filled with political appointees who want NC State to get a seat on any lifeboat
Im sure the UNC athletic department doesn’t give a shit but they’re willing to float it as a negotiating position to make their life easier
I mean if Clemson and FSU don’t want in the SEC, I won’t fuss. If NC State has to come as part of package, they can replace Clemson quite easily.
Without Clemson you won’t be getting the highly coveted NW corner of SC media market. So tread carefully as there are tens of viewers up there you’ll be missing out on
It’s different in that UNC BOG is now ahead of the problem, rather than trying to react to it after it’s happened. And now it’s official. I’m still skeptical they would actually hold UNC back in the end, but they can if they want to.
