A Delta flight had to do U-turn after maggots fell onto a passenger from an overhead bin containing rotten fish https://www.businessinsider.com/del...rotten-fish-passenger-detroit-suitcase-2024-2
On a United flight right now. These planes are so shitty compared to Delta. We were supposed to fly yesterday, but the flight had mechanical issues and we would have had to stay in Denver overnight, so we rescheduled for today. One less day with my inlaws.
I don't even know. 3 seats on each side, 30+ rows deep. Maybe we've been flying Delta Comfort too much and this economy shit is bad everywhere.
United is upgrading their planes, but it is still a work in progress. possible you were on one of their older, non-updated planes. Also ordered 200 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the largest-ever order of widebody jets for a U.S. carrier. Set to be delivered this year. currently is a roll of the dice on what type of plane you get these days
Basic economy on all domestic carriers is dogshit imo. It’s gotten to the point where I automatically add $50-$75 on whatever airfare google shows because I know the barebones package is borderline impossible.
How does that even make it thru security? I know you can bring food thru, but maggots eating rotten fish has to be distinguishable.
I did a day trip to NYC two weeks ago in an economy middle seat. I survived that so I think you'll be ok.
I flew MSP-ORD a few weeks back sandwiched in between two Jason Kelce sized men. At least I wasn't cold during the flight.
Jeopardy taught me tonight that spirit started with the purpose of flying ppl from Detroit to Atlantic City. They’ve earned my respect
Flew on the (new?) united 737 yesterday. Very enjoyable experience; good movie selection, two ports for the headphones if you and your partner wanna watch together, and also Bluetooth compatible. I enjoyed it
In seat as in the screens on the back of seats or in seat as in connecting on your phone for free to watch movies and shows?
Good point. I thought we were talking about screens on the backs of seats. Even Southwest has connecting on your phone for free to watch movies, etc.
I was more so referencing the need to pay more to get out of basic economy so you get normal leg room, not board last, can check a bag, choose a seat, etc. All those have become paid add ons at this point.
Normal leg room, checking a bag, and choosing a seat aren’t basic things on all major US airlines? Which non-budget airlines are those paid add ons?
it’s fine. I don’t do it often, because I’m able to pick exit row for free, so that’s always my backup seat if I don’t get into first or comfort+. I did some standby on a same day change last year to get home earlier and they put me at the back of the plane and it wasn’t terrible
UA is where AA was not long ago, they’re ordering a shitload of new planes, so you will either be on a brand new very nice plane, or the shittiest one you can imagine, with no in between I have a similar dynamic out of MCI on delta because they still fly their ancient 717s on some routes to MSP and all routes to DTW
That's a small perk of having status with airlines, not having to pay for anything additional like baggage or seat selection
I at least feel more confident that the older planes have been around so long that maintenance crews are more familiar with them and pilots have been flying them for a long time. New planes coming from Boeing concern me. I don't trust that they didn't rush through production and overlook something serious.
Every single one of the big 3 charge you extra for checked bag, seat selection, not boarding last, and any ticket flexibility. Same goes for Alaska.
For our flight home tomorrow we have seats A, B, C and D. All are preferred seating, so we paid an extra $25 for each seat. My wife is staying longer to deal with some family stuff, so we switched her flight. My seat is D, her seat was C, my kids are A and B. United is trying to charge me another 25 dollars to move my seat from D to C. Both are preferred aisle seats. It's fucking amazing. I'll just switch on the plane, of course, but trying to charge me again for the same price seat is insane.
Stranger in Seat C: “Hey, it’s cool with me if you want to switch seats and be next to your kids.” ~taylor~: “Um, I think that’s against FAA laws …”
"... just an FYI, the little one waits until the very last minute when she has to pee. I've got dry clothes if she needs them. There are snacks in her Stitch carry-on!"
https://liveandletsfly.com/denied-boarding-cursing/ Recently, he shared about how he removed an irate passenger in Newark, New Jersey (EWR): Had a funny one earlier this week on a domestic 4 day trip. While at EWR, I had to pop out to grab some paperwork from the GA just before boarding started. Standing there, literally throwing every combination of the “F” word at the gate agent was a 1K member (or so he claimed) angry about something. I stood there for a second, looked at him, and asked if he was flying to SFO. He confirmed he was. I then turned to the GA and told her to re-accommodate him on another flight, because he WAS not flying with me that day. I honestly thought he was going to punch one of us at that point but to his credit, he simply threw a few F-bombs at us and walked away.
