if FSU leaves, espn is just going to abandon the ACC deal. There’s a reason they haven’t pulled the trigger on the extension despite being given multiple opportunities to do so
I really hope the acc splits up soon, I don’t want to have to build some ridiculous 17 team scheduling algorithm
i maintain that stance. don't think we get there with NOTHING happening but i think espn would rather just dissolve it and move fsu to the sec than deal with court battles.
I thought grant of rights formally only dealt with the conference and school, not tv network and school?
the GOR is explicitly for the ESPN deal. If the ESPN deal is cancelled, there would be immediately litigation from basically everyone to invalidate it.
the amount of times that the GOR documents specifically mention the ESPN deal make it *extremely* unlikely that it doesnt fall apart immediately if ESPN cancels the deal. FSU/UNC/Clemson all hit the door immediately if the ESPN deal collapses. So does anyone with a b12 bailout. No way they risk this group of corrupt incompetents taking their rights to market. even if the GOR somehow survived that immediate challenge and the rights are taken to market, the ACC's offers will be dogshit because all the bidders know all the good schools will be leaving regardless.
and then the acc brings in half the aac to try to survive. certainly wouldnt be the worst conference but not one thats even close to have a seat at the adult table.
In 2022 ESPN offered the PAC-12 $30M/member/year. And that was with Oregon and Washington in the league. If FSU/Clemson/UNC leave, ESPN’s offer to the new ACC would be less than that imo.
If you have to fight and keep an agreement under lock and key (then argue nobody should know anything abt it), it's probably a shady fucking agreement and shouldn't be in existence. Not just saying that because of Fuck the ACC (but, Fuck the ACC), but just seems like pretty standard concept across the board.
One of the biggest reasons ND has not wanted to join a conference is because of regionalization. They want access to their alumni bases in the major markets - California, NYC, Texas, Florida, etc. The B1G potentially adding Florida State and Texas A&M basically gives them what they want.
I want to be clear I want no parts of A&M in the B1G, but part of me wishes this were true just to see how terrified these people are of the university of Texas and how committed they are to painting the picture that they aren’t little brother. A real life screaming behind a smiling mask meme.
A&M has already agreed to a SEC's media rights deal through 2034 That's literally a number that no matter how rich your donors are is impossible to pay off or am I missing something?
I mean, that’s not too far from what I proposed in expanding and then creating conference tournaments with the goal of having the conference tournament champs play in a national semifinal.
Guys we had big news today You cannot kill the MAC I've heard WKU for a long time, it seems very likely to happen
