Christ what're we up to 14 DBs in this class? Not a complaint, looks like a fine crop of dogs to ascend to heaven
It's been a few pages since I heaped superlatives upon Evan Cooper. I hope we keep this dude around forever. Honestly think he might be the best secondary coach NU's ever had. Thinking back to 2017, when Arkansas St averaged like 10 yards on every single WR screen. Partly because of scheme, but mostly because of what a complete fraud Dante Williams was. Exactly one year under Cooper and opposing teams throw screens to the boundary at their peril. Doesn't matter if it's Marvin Harrison Jr vs Phalen Sanford, that dog is on a suicide mission to bury that MFer 4 yards deep. And then we have to apparently restrain him from signing an entire class of 30 DBs because in his heart he wants to adopt all the dogs in the known universe to teach them how to die throwing their bodies through 2 blockers and killing opposing WRs and TEs
One of these days we're gonna have some legit early round talent at CB and Cooper's gonna send his ass out there to die busting a wedge on the boundary like any other dog and then send some totally unknown freshman in to do the same on the next play.
Tbh the ‘Per talk got me thinkin and excited about this staff once again. This new era of cfb is not for every coach. Lots of guys leaving or looking for ways to get into the NFL. Rhule seems to genuinely enjoy his position and it’s reflected in the staff as well. Somehow him and his crew love and appreciate the position they are in more than their predecessors, despite having no connections to the program. and this carries over in the little things. We were not a talented team last year. But we legit had a top defense in the country. And for the first time in decades the players up and down the roster are fully bought in. The players like each other, the staff, and the program. This will pay dividends and we will be in a bowl for every season Rhule is the coach from here on out.
Rhule and this staff love college kids. I don't actually think that's true for most cfb coaches. I think most of them love football more than they love teaching kids.
This was my favorite play from the secondary last year. Any other defense of the last decade would’ve let that be a huge gain.
If Singleton comes back strong. Think the secondary might take a step back this year. Losing Newsome and Brown is pretty huge imo.
Gifford, Singleton, Brown, Newsome-- good players, but who were they before Cooper/White got here? If the secondary takes a step back, it won't be much of one. Cooper is gonna have some of these newcomers ready to pick up where Newsome left off.
We get ol buford back too, yeah? Lil buford prolly one of those in line for a lot of early playing tim
It's hard to be athletic and big. If you have both, you're a top recruit and likely wouldn't end up at Nebraska. Our best bet is to have people who are exceptionally athletic or big and just hope the guys around them can fill in their weaknesses.
I know but it seems like everyone in the B1G (even Rutgers!) has a big that's taking rebounds from people, stuffing put backs, and dunking lobs. They might be 55% from the FT line and otherwise don't have shooting skills but we're always getting beat on boards and dunks by a dude like that it seems.
Our problem hasn't been taking dudes who were supposed to be that. It was that they either weren't that or it would take a while to become that and we didn't keep them around for whatever reason. Diop could be a guy like that but he currently looks timid and lost on the floor more often than not because he's a baby at actually playing basketball.
Starting 5 should be Buford, Singleton, Gifford, Hartzog, Hill. That's salty. Only downside is not a ton of other dudes with playing experience but I'm p confident Cooper/White will be able to mix and match guys who've never played a down before so they'll be able to step in and be ok. The rotation without much dropoff on defense last year was one of the damndest things I've seen out of a Nebraska defense in forever.
The lack of drop off is the fun thing. Remember that kid from a CC in Iowa that nobody even knew was on the roster? Came in that first game with a sack and was just a wild man. For the first few weeks nobody even know which community college he came from.
Who and what is a James White and he's a walkon from Western Iowa wait Central Iowa wait there's a Central Iowa where the fuck is that and how did we get here and why does he look like George Karlaftis fucking up these offenses
Remember Phalen Sanford looking like Matt O'Hanlon in run support after playing 100% special teams for like 10 seasons
Think Hartzog is gonna find a little lesser role next year. Don't think we'll see him out there on an island chasing deep balls against WRs 6" taller than him much anymore. He was out there out of necessity, he did a noble job, but my sense is Coop didn't recruit 28 DBs to be in the same position as last year. Some of these dudes are gonna be ready to go by game 1
John Bullock was a meh walkon safety and turned into a monster linebacker. It's honestly fuckin incredible the job the defensive coaches did last year.
Yeah their whole MO is developing kids to be the best players they can be, then developing a system around them and their strengths. Which is what I've been dying for Nebraska to do since Bill Snyder kept fucking up Solich's teams by doing exactly that. No more of this dogmatic system bullshit.
Day 2 of nonstop pissing out of my b*tt (ass) and the boredom has set in. Posting takes so frothy it looks like I ladled them outta the toilet bowl.
I can’t imagine gathering to eat hot dogs and pizza and gather around to watch *high school football highlights* like a grade school slumber party renting out a movie. With special guest ‘Dean’ giving you analysis. Think I know what I’m suggesting punishment is for fantasy football loser next year.
A rather fat friend of mine is wondering if the hot dogs are all-you-can-eat or not and that will decide whether I go or not.
