Matta definitely needed a break from basketball. It was almost as rough his last couple of years as it is now. But, yes obviously his era was a shit ton better. It's good to see him back winning after getting his health in order. He's good people.
Controversial take…. The 2 decisions are not mutually exclusive. Matta was not really cutting it and his last couple years were relatively middling, at best. I don’t think the decision to move on from him was wrong. On the flip side, Holtman was a good hire and then stagnated before falling off these last 2 years. He needs to be gone but I don’t know if that will happen with the AD change over not fully taking place until the summer.
Attendance will continue to drop this year. Have to imagine would be even worse next year if he’s retained. Gonna have to eat the buyout.
