UGA at home too. At Michigan won’t be a cakewalk, but that team will be close to unrecognizable from this year’s title winners. 11-1 should be the floor for them next regular season. We’ll see how it goes.
Because we didn’t have to rely on it when Saban was here. You’re a smart guy, this should be pretty obvious.
Well, we’re never getting oil money and Jimmy Rayne is bank rolling Auburn, so I doubt we catch up there either.
I would hope that an 18 month plan to fix this is being addressed currently, because while it is understandable WHY we are behind, it cannot continue in that way.
If our NIL is behind, begging people like us to give isn’t really gonna change it that much. They need to talk to the big boys.
Our NIL isn’t horrible. We’re a top 10 NIL team but we can’t compete with Texas or A&M and we can’t blow our budget on Bond. If we’re gonna pay someone $1M it would be Downs
the problem is schools like Texas & Auburn have been starving for relevancy for a while and we have been at the top. It's a little easier to raise funds when you've been terrible and you can now put money up to directly affect recruiting. If we experience a lull in performance or recruiting I would expect our NIL to be as competitive as anyone. We just haven't had to
Probably because he decided to retire 5 minutes before a team meeting. And our collective is run by Aaron Suttles. Even if it gets better under DeBoer, if you think we’re about to start paying on the same level of Tennessee, Auburn, aTm, Miami, etc. you’re setting yourself up for unnecessary disappointment.
We're not the big boys? THIS IS A THREAD FULL OF LAWYERS AND ACCOUNTANTS AND JEWEL MEN AND FINANCIERS AND GUYS WITH DOLLY PARTON COFFEE TABLE BOOKS!
Seems obvious to me that Texas boosters are on another planet than ours. We’ll never compete with oil money.
Bond posted a picture in a Lamborghinii yesterday. Supposedly Texas NIL includes a deal with a local dealership where you get one as long as you’re at Texas, like a free lease.
Well Saban thinks the whole thing is stupid so I think the notion that he will become our big NiL savior is a BOL pipe dream.
Of course - there are going to be a handful of schools who both care deeply about sports and have lots of alumni with deep pockets that we won't be able to compete with. Texas will always be one of those.
these collectives are weird. They should have to offer some transparency about how the funds are used
We relied on Saban and Auburn is desperate. They have been willing to throw out a lot more money than most schools and they wanted the win over Alabama and Saban in recruiting.
Make use of those dealerships damnit. Also how in the world is Suttles running our NIL? I thought that other dude was the director and Suttles was just in charge of content?
I think he's going to do what was reported somewhere (Lowe at ESPN maybe?) and focus on being the defacto shadow commissioner of the sport and work with the NCAA/lawmakers/etc to figure all of this out moving forward - while also being with his grandkids, going on trips with Mrs Terry and playing golf everyday. All of this talk of Saban as the GM of the program moving forward is dreamcasting, IMHO. He'll help initially with the handoff, but I'd be shocked if it's anything past that.
Texas can only fill 85 spots. It's ok if we can't compete with 3-5 schools. Not competing with Auburn is inexcusable to me. Don't care about Jimmy Rayne
Texas, A&M, and Miami because of like 1 guy are all ahead of us. Tennessee has a better run collective but I don’t think they have inherently more money than us. We could do better, I agree. But have a hard ceiling that will always put us behind about 3-5 schools.
yeah that a'int happening. Hell I'm used to being poor in basketball, but being poor in football sucks.
We also don’t have a Yella Fella. Dude is a billionaire and hardcore aub. I don’t think we have anyone on his level.
My expectation is that we are well run and in front of things so that we can give the coach a solid budget to work with in recruiting and in player retention. I don't expect to reset the market on big recruits like Miami has done or Tennessee did with Nico, but we should never lose guys who somewhat want to be here because of NIL. That's my general expectation level.
So how soon are we gonna lose Nate when his meager NIL piggy bank dries up AND the arena is totally out of the question at any point for the next 10 years?
Maybe if you guys werent so busy scrolling TMB all day and out acquiring currency we’d have a better NIL program!!
Miami isn't 1 guy the Mas family and their Cuban human trafficking op proceeds funds Mario Ruiz keeps the heat off
100% - he's also an old school coach who respects other coaches and the profession. The last thing he wants is to be looked at as some sort of massive shadow figure hanging around.
this is why I believe Byrne targeted DeBoer. If we're going to have limitations with NIL resources competing against the schools with the top money, we need a guy that gives us a schematic advantage so we can make the playoffs with a 5-10 roster
Time for us to cut down all the forests of the West Alabama blackbelt, tank the lumber market and go all in.
