Mel getting fired and Stallions in disguise wearing spy glasses on the CMU sideline were the only good things to happen this season.
I always have thought that the University of Virginia did not have much to offer in realignment discussions as a possible addition to the Big Ten. Then I found out, that when rival Va Tech gathered for a team photo after their road victory, the University of Virginia turned the sprinklers on them. Culturally, they may be a good fit.
Michigan's current roster situation goes as follows... Players out of eligibility LaDarius Henderson (LT) Michael Barrett (LB) Josh Wallace (CB) Mike Sainristil (DB) James Turner (K) Players who could come back but are leaving Blake Corum (RB) Roman Wilson (WR) Cornelius Johnson (WR) AJ Barner (TE) Trevor Keegan (G) Zak Zinter (G) Drake Nugent (C) Kris Jenkins (DT) Jaylen Harrell (OLB) Braiden McGregor (DE) Players with decisions to make JJ McCarthy (QB) Donovan Edwards (RB) Trente Jones (OT) Josiah Stewart (DE) Junior Colson (LB) Rod Moore (S) Makari Paige (S) Quentin Johnson (S) Of that group, I'm guessing McCarthy, Edwards, Colson and Moore all leave. I really hope Stewart stays. Guys like Jones, Paige and Johnson are more about whether they want to keep playing CFB because none of them would be likely to get drafted.
JJ has been teasing a return. Thought Edwards would stay if JJ stayed but after his 2 TD performance in the Champ game I could see him bouncing....the rest? no clue
The time following the firing of a coach is probably one of the best times for most fanbases. Fans dream up scenarios where their school can get Urban Meyer; and when they ultimate don’t and hire someone else that guy gets hyped up to be the second coming of Bill Walsh. Then there’s that new coach shine that results in a nice recruiting bump. All in all, it’s a fun first couple of months.
I think one or two have said they intend to declare. And there are several that have committed to the Senior Bowl like Barner and Wilson but haven’t officially declared. they’ve been playing games still until Monday, as you’re aware, so decisions should be official this week. Since they were busy until Monday. At the national championship game. That they won
Ohio State is still waiting on a lot of decisions: QB McCord gone RB Henderson ? WR Fleming gone WR Harrison ? WR Egbuka ? TE Stover gone RT Fryar RG Jones gone C Hinzman LG Jackson ? LT Simmons DE Sawyer DT Hamilton DT Williams DE Tuimoloau? LB Eichenberg gone LB Steele gone CB Burke ? CB Igbinosun S Styles S Ransom S Proctor gone
Most of them have either been strongly rumored to be gone or have come out and said that was their intention. Barner seemed like the person in that group most likely to be on the fence, but as mentioned he accepted a Senior Bowl invite and I would assume he's gone since he can't really move up much in terms of the draft with another year.
Im not trolling. I dont see the point of replacing year 2 mccord with year 1 will howard. I dunno how that convo between mccord and day went, but I feel like OSU couldve fought harder to keep him
Herb will probably write an entire dissertation on this but there's a lot of factors that led to it. He wanted to be guaranteed the starter job and a pretty big bump in an already lucrative NIL deal. He played pretty okay but you should play better than pretty okay throwing to those receivers and handing it off to Trey Henderson. He threw a ton of turnover worthy throws and thankfully many of them weren't until we played you guys. Also, I've long believed you have to have a QB that's athletic enough to extend plays and at least make the defense pay if they don't respect your legs at all in order to win against elite competition, he can't do that. His vibes kinda sucked, before the biggest game of his life he gave a pre-game speech where he just kept yelling "Don't make mistakes" over and over, you can't go into The Game with that attitude and win.
Depending upon who you believe, McCord and his dad demanded a higher NIL package and a guarantee to start. Day said no, so McCord left. No idea what Syracuse is paying, but it seems McCord may have overestimated the interest he would receive in the portal, which is why he’s now at Syracuse. McCord had turnover problems in our biggest games, including multiple fumbles that aren’t reflected in his passing stats. I literally was the only one still defending him in our thread prior to the Michigan game, and his two interceptions killed us that game.
QB mobility and at least the threat of run to keep D honest has to be part of it I'm sure. Because Stroud refused and McCord was a statue definitely played a part in letting UM devote so many resources to the pass.
We wanted Stroud to run more but it makes sense why he didn't. He was very good at extending plays though, which is the most important part of that.
Denzel Burke is back at CB. If JTT returns at defense, we are looking very good for 2024. DE Sawyer DT Hamilton DT Williams DE Tuimoloau? LB Eichenberg gone LB Steele gone CB Burke CB Igbinosun S Styles S Ransom S Proctor gone Ransom missed our last 4-5 games, so we ran 3 CBs with Jordan Hancock or had Malik Hartford start. Both are back. Cody Simon takes over at Lb, and my hope is we drop Styles to LB with Hancock/Hartford both starting in the secondary.
Please let us know who your next staff whipping boy is so that I can adjust my troll posts accordingly. I'm going to miss that guy.
A lot of the time, the fan base whipping boy is singled out for one reason or the other and often times it's unfair. Our special teams under Parker Fleming were comically bad, especially in big games. There were rarely the right people or right number of people on the field and they all thought we were doing something different. He's an absolute disaster of a coach.
Damn. So this is basically the dream offseason for you guys so far with the players returning + the coaches and recruiting and the portal.
Donovan Jackson is back at guard. 4/5 of a terrible OL return, but we add Alabama transfer Seth McLaughlin and I expect Luke Montgomery to push the returning starters as well. McLaughlin had his issues, as Michigan fans saw first hand, but he has 25 career starts. Montgomery was a true freshman in 2023 who wasn’t ready. It’s been a good day.
We return pretty much everyone on defense except CB-DeJean and DE Joe Evans plus we had some pretty talented red shirt freshman to the mix. Once again our defense will be right up there and our special teams will be good and our offense can’t really get any worse so next year probably looking at a 10-3, 9-4 season. Same old same old
Ohio State got a lot of returnees in the last 24 hours—Burke, Egbuka, Jackson and Hancock. We’re now waiting on TreyVeon Henderson and Tuimoloau, with Harrison assumed gone. QB McCord gone RB Henderson ? WR Fleming gone WR Harrison ? WR Egbuka TE Stover gone RT Fryar RG Jones gone C Hinzman LG Jackson LT Simmons DE Sawyer DT Hamilton DT Williams DE Tuimoloau? LB Eichenberg gone LB Steele gone CB Burke CB Igbinosun CB Hancock S Styles S Ransom S Proctor gone
Our offense has legitimate concerns, with a new QB and lingering OL issues. If we get JTT back at DE, we could have the best defense we have seen in a long time at OSU. We’ve entered the Caleb Downs sweepstakes at safety as well.
Our offense will be really good again next year. Probably not elite like 2021 or 2022, but it'll be much better than 2023. Defense should be one of the best in the country.
Based upon what we have seen from Brown, I assume it will be Howard. If the staff felt comfortable with Brown, they wouldn’t have taken Howard. No one has posted anything on Brown, but I’m not going to be surprised at all if Brown (22) and/or Keinholz (23) hit the portal after Spring, Air Noland is a January enrollee who will practice this Spring. If he looks good, I’m not going to be surprised if the others leave.
While I would like Michigan to beat Ohio State and win the Big Ten every year, I recognize that it's unlikely to happen 4 years in a row and I'm okay with that. Thanks for listening.
If JTT is back, don't see how you're not the presumed best defense in the country. Hell even if he isn't back that unit is stacked.
We've got almost all our main guys back + have added a few pieces in the portal and this class. If we can figure out how to take the offense from a flaming bag of dogshit and turn it into something mediocre or god forbid average, I think we'll be able to win 8+ games with the defense that's returning. Raiola should help. But we'll also need to figure out how to be not anti-clutch losers who piss away games at an inexplicably high rate which, we'll fucking see.
