I have zero doubts that LSU could offer him an amount of money that Michigan probably wouldn't match because that's just how the two programs work. And it would be a good hire because Minter is really smart and has done great work at UM. The lack of creativity at LSU (and the SEC in general) when it comes to staff hirings will always amuse me, though. It's just a big game of "someone who was good somewhere else last year TAKE MY MONEY" until someone does. And then when that doesn't work it means that guy sucks forever and you just do the same thing all over again.
This exact model is why LSU has spent nearly $22m in asstitant coaching buyouts since 2020 under Woodward. I firmly believed that House wasn't going anywhere because his contract (as well as some other staffers) was so buyout friendly for the coaches (he's getting $4.1m to piss off) for a school that is relatively broke in some circles. I have no issue with Blake Baker because I think he can unlock Harold Perkins and help in the recruiting dept. Jesse Minter sounds like fools gold that some LSU media member looked up and threw out there. I've also heard DJ Durkin being floated which makes me want to vomit.
When you have a chance to get two coaches with blood on their hands on your staff you just have to do it
Here come all the jokes about how a once successful coordinator failed as a head coach so now they will always fail as a coordinator, as well. Similar to how ND's defense is now a disaster with Al Golden. (Yes,.that's sarcasm) I mean, most coordinators turned HC were successful in their former role to get a shot at HC in the first place, no? Disclaimer...no idea how he'll do. I just always enjoy the fans of programs where they fail as HCs piling on.
he's been awesome as a dc at multiple stops, main question I have is can he change the soft culture on that side of the ball operating under Mack's purview but that'd be the case with any hire
Brady Hoke was never a college coordinator before becoming head coach of the year in 3 separate conferences, so I think that should tell you all you need to know about how important success as a coordinator is.
Yeah, no clue how he'll do there, specifically. HC still matters. For example, I don't care who USC hired, the lack of a physical offense to practice against to prepare and the challenge of too much time on the field due to a lack of ball control will make even the best DCs experience some loss of success. I just think the usual narrative of Coach X will suck in his previously successful role because he sucked as a HC to be amusing.
Yeah. I was referring more to good coordinators who weren't good head coaches. There have been plenty, and many who have gone back to succeed as coordinators. You're right, though, totally different skill sets that don't always translate. I mean, ND just lost a bad OC who I actually think has the makings of a good HC. He recruits, teaches, and relates well. He just sucks as calling an offense. So the opposite is also possible. Some guys as great at Xs and Os but not so much the recruiting, culture, management piece.
Alabama hired a guy for OC that took an offense from 18th to 23rd to 37th with fans were calling for his firing.
TMB will do that some times. The tweet didnt get taken down but the board acts like it. It's definitely Elon's fault Per agreements acquired by open records Eli Drinkwitz's guaranteed salary: 2024/25: $9 million 2026/27: $9.25 million 2028: $9.5 million Kirby Moore's new contract guaranteed: 2024: $1.12 million 2025: $1.3 million
I wish. I’m still stunned our DC wasn’t the first to go. I’m guessing he has pics of Billy slurping tequila out of stripper’s ass stashed away in that tool shed of his.
