Omalley said he has never heard worse reports about a freshman receiver than he did about Braylon James. Kind of surprised by that
Probably depends who his source was because per D3 some coaches absolutely loved James’ upside and some thought he was absolutely useless (ie. Stuckey).
Didn't the exact same thing happen with the 5* wr in Jurkovic's class? Like they knew day 1 he couldn't play. Edit: nvm meant Jordan Johnson
Feel like WRs are a finicky breed, both from a physical development standpoint and personality standpoint. I think you have to take quite a few every year and realize there’s going to be regular churn. One issue I have with how we run our offense is we have extremely strict definitions for the X, Y, and Z and certain player types that are necessities for those. I understand there are pros to do it that way, but one of the cons is it inherently gets rid of flexibility in the room. If you only have two Xs and both go down, you’re screwed. You’re also not necessarily playing the best 3 pass catchers at any point in time. It’s funny because Driskell, RR, and Shaun Davis were chatting about Josh Kelly yesterday and mentioned they think he’s the 3rd of the three current options because they don’t know exactly where he fits. I’d say he’s actually the #1 best WR of the three and you let him play wherever you need the most help. Just because a kid doesn’t fit a certain profile doesn’t mean you can’t use him, especially if he’s the most talented option.
I agree that Kelly is the clear #1, followed by Mitchell and then Beaux and yes, you make the positions flexible because these guys are grad students who've played a lot of football and should be able to play any of those positions
Tim says his sources were "more than two handfuls of players, coaches, and those that are involved with practices."
Loy says the visit with the wsu wr went well and nd asked him to commit in the next few days If he goes to the Texas tech visit they will move on. Rico Flores visiting ucla I thought that is where he would end up. Someone is giving him bad advise.
I thought it was funny that the reason he moved on is that he wants to be the best wr in the country and nd was not the place for it. I am sorry to break it to him but that place does not exist. I like confidence until it turns into complete lunacy.
D3 put this together but the schedules next year look fantastic Spoiler There’s a lot of reasons I want Notre Dame to be willing to take their shot for 2024. One of them is Notre Dame has a lot of talent, so making the right portal pickups is important. Here is a reason why, top teams will have some tough schedules next year. NOTRE DAME at Texas A&M Louisville at Georgia Tech Florida State at USC ALABAMA at Wisconsin Georgia at Tennessee at LSU at Oklahoma Auburn Missouri GEORGIA vs. Clemson (Atlanta) at Kentucky at Alabama at Texas vs. Florida (Jacksonville) at Ole Miss Tennessee LSU vs. USC (Las Vegas) UCLA at Texas A&M Alabama at Florida Oklahoma Ole Miss TENNESSEE vs. NC State (Charlotte, NC) at Oklahoma Florida Alabama at Georgia TEXAS at Michigan Georgia at Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma (Dallas) Florida OKLAHOMA Tennessee Alabama vs. Texas (Dallas) at Auburn at LSU at Missouri at Ole Miss MICHIGAN Texas USC at Washington Oregon at Ohio State OHIO STATE Iowa at Oregon at Penn State Michigan PENN STATE at West Virginia at USC at Wisconsin Ohio State Washington USC vs LSU (Las Vegas) at Michigan Penn State at Washington at UCLA Notre Dame WASHINGTON vs. Washington State (Seattle) Michigan at Iowa USC at Penn State at Oregon OREGON at UCLA Ohio State at Michigan at Wisconsin Washington The ACC isn’t quite as tough, but still some challenging schedules. CLEMSON vs. Georgia (Atlanta) at Florida State NC State FLORIDA STATE vs. Georgia Tech (Dublin) at Notre Dame Florida Clemson North Carolina at Miami MIAMI at Florida at Georgia Tech at Louisville Florida State i think every team will have at least 1 loss last year
It’ll be interesting to see next year with 12 teams how that impacts transfers. Does a McCord or someone like that stick around if OSU is a 7 seed?
anyone trying to get to the NFL and transferring in the midst of a playoff run would be making a foolish decision IMO...NFL teams look down on stuff like that and that could cost a player draft position now a complete bench warmer is a different thing
Estime - 2nd team AA for USA Today Alt/Xavier - 1st team pretty impressive for all of those guys https://www.si.com/college/notredam...rio-earns-usa-today-sports-all-america-honors
Watts not even being a Thorpe Award semifinalist continues to be one of the weirder awards snubs I can remember. Like I get maybe not winning it, but not even one of 15 semifinalists?!
I watched the Nagurski thing the other night in the background and even though he won he seemed like an afterthought there too, like his highlight package was only through 8 weeks and there was no interview with Freeman like there was with the other coaches, etc. I wonder if his coming on late screwed up some of these awards.
Not only would they be paid directly for the names, images and likeness, but the show would be a great way for the bigger personalities to get exposure toward their own deals. Can you imagine Sheldon Day and Terry Jillery harnessing the attention of the sitcom-style of how they were presented in the Showtime series? They could have made some bank at that point had it been an option. Though now I'm really bummed that Audric will be gone, because I feel like he would have been fun in a series like this.
