Travelling back from Vegas ironically from a conference to Portland, met a bunch of Washington and Oregon fans Thursday night. I watched the second half with my wife at a Great Notion Brewing since we had a parent's night out scheduled for our six year old in Cedar Hills.
Not playing the victim at all. Making a point that it’s not shocking Corch or any of y’all are against Bama. It doesn’t matter to me whether Bama makes it or not other than the massive outrage that TMB will have if they do.
They barely beat a 6-6 team in week 13, needing a 4th and 31 miracle. Pretty inconsistent improvement. A 6-6 team that lost to NMSU, sorry, got blown out by an NMSU team a week before. Bama fans pumping the “resume” argument forgetting how many bad looks they’ve had this season, both early and late. It’s not like you’re peaking.
There's no plausible argument to be made that in a head-to-head comparison, Alabama should go over Texas. They are, to my mind, a lock on the level of Michigan and Washington purely on the strength of the Bama win + conference championship and only 1 loss. It's ultimately down to a straight Bama/FSU comparison based on criteria that pretty narrowly adhere to the concept of "best" vs "deserving". Florida State is, by virtue of an unbeaten record and P5 conference title, the most deserving. I would guess that most or all of the serious CFB-watching fans would reasonably believe that Alabama is the better of the two teams based on available personnel and relative SOS. Which matters more in the eyes of the committee is what will decide everything.
Normally the SEC dominates in the non conference so this would be an easier argument for Bama but uhh the SEC was terrible in non conference play this year capped by two losses to FSU and one to Texas
This is a big damper, as well as factors like our performance in the IB. It's hard to make a convincing case that you've become a dominant team by the end of the year when you need a miracle on 4th and 31 to beat a 6-6 team the week before the SECCG. I'm at peace with whatever decision they make. Obviously I'd prefer Bama gets a shot and I think they'd acquit themselves well given the opportunity, but if results and achievements on the field aren't rewarded, then what are we really doing here? The absurdity of this season in producing this many undefeated and one-loss conference champs in the limitations of a four-team system is what has created this situation.
Waking up it seems more and more likely we'll get left out. Sucks. It sets a really bad precedent moving forward about scheduling strong ooc games. There's no point. Bama is 100% in if they'd have played SMU early in the season instead of Texas. Also seems wild to me that everyone admits that FSU has no chance to win it as currently constructed but want them in anyway. What's the point? A participation trophy? The injury sucks but ignoring it is dumb. Does anyone here think FSU would beat Bama next weekend? If no, why feed them to the playoff teams? Makes no sense. It seems like everyone is just tired of the SEC winning titles and want to keep them out to give others a shot. This year's champ will get an asterisk.
I don’t think this is it, the other teams are just weirdly more deserving this year for the 4 spots. It took an unprecedented chain of events for this to happen starting with Bama and LSU losing in the non conference to teams that deserve to be in
dblplay1212 has been saying for weeks that there the was no way Alabama would be left out if they won the SEC. As it’s looking like Alabama may now be left out does he say he was wrong? No, it’s that everyone is tired of the SEC winning and the NC will have an asterisk.
You really do struggle with reading. I literally said it looks like Bama will get left, meaning I'd be wrong. I disagree with it but I don't have a vote.
Do you think FSU would beat Bama next weekend? Who has a better chance to beat Michigan? Whatever, can't do this all day. I'll check back later to see the popping of bottles bc the SEC got left out. Happy for you guys, finally found a way to beat them.
It's always amazed me how FBS football is the literal only sport in existence that can't/won't objectively determine which teams should participate in the postseason tournament.
How can you do this with 130 teams and only 12 games? There isn't enough time in the regular season, and you can't find enough time to do something like a March Madness-style tournament in the postseason. It's part of what makes FBS unique and fun.
