The region's MPO (HGAC) habitually fucks over Houston when it comes to how federal money is spent in the 13-county metro area. Houston contains ~60% of the population that is served by HGAC, but only gets about 15% of the voting power. This allows TxDOT, the governor's office and some of the shittier suburban counties to siphon money away from Houston and fund their pet projects. The two biggest examples are the I-45 expansion thru downtown Houston and the unequal distribution of Harvey flood money to build resiliency against future flooding (Houston got 2% of $500 million sent to HGAC). The StopTxDOT protest spun off into the Fair For Houston movement, which got Prop B on this week's ballot. Prop B passed overwhelmingly, which mandates that HGAC reform their representation to allow for Houston to have voting power in proportion to its population. The end result will be that federal money that comes to Houston will better serve Houston and not subsidize living an hour or two outside of the city limits. I believe it's the first time a city has ever told its MPO to fuck off, and could lead to similar reform across the country.
At first I thought you were talking about one of those influencer twins and was like damn I can’t believe it took them this long to move to Austin.

No he’ll call another session. He’s already threatened to call them back through the holidays to try to scare them into caving.
First his little voucher program he’s used up all his political capital on goes down now this? All his chest puffing and bluffing toward his own party is finally coming back to bite him.
Funny enough that reminds me of back in the early message board days in Arkansas we had one of the admins of a site get in a bunch of trouble bc he told a poster he wished he could go back in time and convince the posters parents to have an abortion. Someone saw it and sent it to the news, so they did a huge segment on "Online Bullying" and read a bunch of his posts which were absolutely hilarious.
Hope Methodist tells him to go fuck himself. The quality of lawyers that Methodist would hire to go against the dickheads at the AGs office would be an unfair fight
I mean the court made the order. What are they going to do, petition the Supreme Court to agree with the lower court?
Not to the Supreme Court, but yes. And if the appeals court overturns, that doctor could be fucked. I THINK, I need to read more about the case.
What I’m saying is they already got the order they wanted. How does a letter from Ken Paxton change the order?
I’d be surprised if they bucked him based on how companies have behaved in this space so far but maybe people showing that they don’t need to fear Abbott and these weirdos might move the neeedle.
I should have been more clear with “they” so say the woman shows up and is denied the procedure. What’s her next course of action? Sue the hospital for not providing service? Appeal to a higher court for an order that a lower court already gave? Murder Ken Paxton?
I don’t think a hospital is obligated to provide care in this scenario, so she has nothing against the hospital.
Doctors: “Your baby will not survive and you may not either” This guy: “I’ll charge you with a fucking felony”
I’m getting like five texts a day from these stupid houston mayor candidates. This shit is so annoying
my thoughts exactly. It's not Disney vs Ron but Methodist has (or used to) the largest endowment of any hospital in the country
I’m getting like five Whitmire postcards delivered to my house a day. Such a waste of money. I’ve told his people to their face I won’t vote for him.
As mentioned, YCSF is cool. Six Car Pub and Brewery is where I worked downtown, good beer and good grub. Green chili Willy’s has awesome chicken fried steak. Braceros on 6th is the best Mexican food.
