Well of course it's pretty good to a bunch of upper middle class dudes on a sports forum who spend the work day talking about politics.
I get it, and understand the frustration. It just seems a little flippant once you personally see what attacks on trans kids looks like from one party. You couldn’t delineate that as partisan even 12 years ago, but now it is.
What? This is exactly what I'm talking about. Other people whose lives are not like ours might not be as sanguine on the Biden admin. That seems to be played out by data and by deduction.
This is the real annoying part of it. Advancing our understanding of financing to allow for seemingly never ending housing cost increases and continually reduced percentage of actual ownership of your house as a “homeowner.” But the responsibilities never go away.
If you time it right you might be able to sell it at 65, buy an RV, and spend the rest on healthcare.
Tangential, but lots of the financial discourse guys are talking about the coming intergenerational transfer from Boomers to Millennials as if that wealth isn't going to be absolutely devoured by healthcare costs. Add in the fact that the generational stat does a lot of work to disguise massive concentration of wealth among those Boomers and it's pretty bleak(ly funny).
The inflation reduction act is heavily investing in clean energy and requires prescription drug negotiation in mcare/mcaid. The rate of wage increase in this economy is higher than it's been in decades. Labor power is as good as its been in decades. Removal of troops from Afghanistan. Pardoned federal prior federal offenses for weed possession and starting review to reschedule it. Have tried in a bunch of different ways to eliminate chunks of student loan debt that disproportionately impact POC. Had the first NA Secretary of the interior. Actual infrastructure. That's just some of it. There's been a lot of half measures but a ton of those measures were specifically directed at poor or historically disenfranchised people. I'm sure I'm forgetting other things.
Ok. Is your position that he has improved their lives and if they don't think so, they're wrong? I'm into it.
My position is he is passing things (and efforting others ) aimed at improving their lives. I don't really want to get into blanket statements here though because I don't want to treat poor or historically disenfranchised people as a monolith. I also don't want to claim to know anyone's experience.
Totally agree. I was making a half-joking, passing comment that telling someone talking about the inability to buy a house *even if* he gets a new job with a massive pay raise is a statement of privilege.
To me the choice is between one side which way too often lets institutional structural barriers prevent them from making the societal changes that it’s voters want to see in order to improve the lives of its voters, and the other side which is actively looking to make the lives of the other party’s voters worse by disregarding those same institutional structural barriers completely. Seems like a no brainer to me, but I’m just an educated white guy who doesn’t get it.
this does not satisfy every single facet of my litmus test in its entirety, so I am going to sit out this election and enhance Donald Trump's approach to Palestine
I hope everyone who thinks Joe Biden is too supportive of Israel was able to watch the GOP debates last night. If one of them win I might as well start packing my kids duffle bags in advance of WW3.
He let me add a lot of value to my home by claiming the square footage of my roof. Biden doesn’t have tips like that.
“Attention: in 3 hours, we will temporarily stop killing everybody in sight for 4 hours. You’re welcome.”
I dunno about my fellow upper middle class dudes but all my friends in the top 10%-2% household income are getting killed right now. Friends in tech, finance & marketing are experiencing layoffs and if they've been laid off, are having a hard time finding a new job. One friend took a 20% pay cut instead of a layoff. A buddy that runs a small marketing shop saw revenue drop from $10M to $3M the last 12 months. Seeing a lot of layoffs at the director/VP level now instead of just the Manager level that happened last year. On top of layoffs, everyone's experiencing cutting operating costs while maintaining growth expectations. No one's having a good time at work with that mentality. The 1% is still buying homes with cash and doing what they do but all my upper middle class dudes are experiencing 2008 vibes. Not looking for sympathy but it feels like the economy is crashing for the 10%-2% guys.
There's probably something to the "richcession" term, even though it means more upper middle than actual billionaire rich. Tech has had 150k layoffs this year, I think? I have my own small business in tech. I've taken multiple pay cuts to keep key employees around and I've had to burn through savings to do it. We're re-negotiating a couple of contracts with customers that determine whether or not we all have jobs in 2024 in the next 90 days (myself included). So I'm glad manufacturing jobs are picking up, but I really don't think the "look at how many jobs I've created line!" out of Biden's campaign is going to be all too effective which a huge portion of his college educated base. But I'll crawl over 5 miles of broken class to vote for his dead corpse if he's running against Trump, and I get the feeling they know that so what does it matter.
Holy fuck, just quote people you pussies. Both things can be bad you fucking binary-thinking dimwitted assholes. Never once did any of us say that the alternative wasn't worse, just that Muslism here watching their families getting slaughtered my not be having voting out Trump at the top of their immediate agenda!
the vast majority of people saying they aren’t voting for Biden don’t have any family in gaza. There aren’t that many Palestinians in america period let alone Palestinians that have family in gaza. Doesn’t mean you can’t feel bad about what is happening but it isn’t because people they personally know are being effected. It’s selective outrage by most
That's why I said Muslism and we've repeatedly shown you articles of Muslims in swing states that are sickened by this because American foreign policy is to let as many Muslism die as they can absolutely allow so we can keep this evil relationship with Israel intact. You especially are the last one who can come in here and finger wag given how much you have been repeatedly shown what Israel is doing to Gaza and continue to act as if this is a symmetric war.
You gonna pull this shit again that no one here was outraged about the famine and atrocities in Yemen even after we showed you receipts? Suck my dick from the back.
The brief discussion of Yemen, a war that has killed over 400,000 civilians pales in comparison to the political movement formed around what’s going on Gaza. Like I said where were you during the rollback of ISIS? Hundreds of thousands of civilians died in iraq and Syria during that as I told you 40,000 alone just in Mosul. Selective outrage
500 people that were literally a part of the biden campaign sign a letter demanding a ceasfire. Posters itt "Well he got them to stop bombing for 4 hours what more do you want?" dO yOu tHinK TrUmp wOuLd dO bEtTeR?
Personally I want to stay out of all foreign wars and use our ridiculous war budget to help Americans. I know it won’t happen and the consequences would be dire but I want what I want.
Doing the "yet you participate in society" libertarian logic is not helping your argument. How many atrocities should I post about before it's okay to be sickened with the one that has been ongoing with the US's best partner in the Middle East? The one that the UN widely condemns is doing genocide and maintaining an apartheid state? I'm still voting for Biden btw, this isn't an argument about me, this is an argument about doing the bare minimum to appeal to a base he's hurting. This isn't helping and takes almost no fucking effort to try to work towards (a ceasefire)!
Sure but thats not what is happening right now. Your tax dollars are going directly to fund missiles to bomb little children. And if you bring up this undeniable fact you are either A) an antisemite or B )prefer trump. Take your pick.
YES, holy shit that is the point. Who on earth else besides Israel themselves could strong-arm them? WHO FUNDS THEM???!!! God damn how are you this dense?
I’m not really following convo but this is a depressing reminder of the world. What’s happening to innocent Palestinians is awful and what Hamas did was awful. It is an interesting case study that exponentially more deaths wasn’t a breaking point for Arab Americans to break from the two pain parties.
